I have a weird feeling about that one. Feels like it should have been a VR game but it was reviewed to be a flat screen after all. Also, I am personally more and more inclined to play couch coop instead of online co-op so this title wouldn’t just work.

3·7 months agoI grabbed YL as Epics freebie at some point and was very hyped since at our place we just love co-op gaming. Turned out that the second player could have an unplugged controller as well, it wouldn’t change anything. We played 5 minutes total.
Did that years ago, just called it cds. I also have an “up” command which is an alias to “cds …”. Oh, and I have a “setup server_name” they copy all my aliases to a server and create an alias that allow me to “ssh -A server_name” using only server_name.

8·7 months agoIt is a reference to the Superman film (1978). This scene was truly scary when I was a kid and its weirdness very likely has something to do with it.

I’ve been offered this set last x-mas, first Lego set in like 20 years. Pure joy, one of my favourite films and beautiful beautiful set. I’ll probably modify it next weekend to build the one from the third film. Enjoy it!
Oh yeah, and I’m back in Legos now, got a Botanical bonsai tree set.

2·9 months agoBut… but… So a thoughtful (d6) character that tries something forceful (4–8) would have 1/2 chance to succeed (with 4, 5 or 6 on their die) while a strong character (d12) would have 5/12 chances to succeed (with 4-8 on their die). It means that a strong character is mathematically weaker at attempting something with their strength than a less thoughtful character.
Edit: …all of that given the same approach die which I assume may happen in character creation.
- Wow, that’s way easier than I was imagining. So, the GM uses core position and effect notions to play around player intention. Thanks!
- Hmm, even if it’s not RAW, your approach still sounds very reasonable. A bad roll means something bad happens and therefore leads to stress. A good roll means everything works good and therefore no stress.
- “Fail forward” is a phrase I easily forget as a non-native English speaker but this is such a meaningful concept. It is also one ofe the core notions in Fate that I played quite a lot and I am kinda embarassed to have forgot it.
Great insights, thank you a lot!

2·9 months agoI agree, feels a lot like Fate. Well, the no-stats approach using different dice is interesting and worth to be noted. I’d try it on a few random scenes just to test it and to see what question would emerge. But yeah, I already foresee quite a few.
I also like the galton-board stress approach. I used a similar thing in my latest game. It’s not necessarily better than any other system but it’s a bit of fresh air and a pretty little mechanic which is rarely (never?) used.
Awesome build, thanks for sharing! It really changes the whole mood of the base model. How many Botanical sets are there?
Edit: I’ve just seen that it is a Reddit repost. AFAIU, OP has used at least 3 Botanical sets and many (many!) flower pick-a-brick elements.

4·9 months agoLoved Steep and have tons of hours on it. However, my issue with it is that it is a purchase for a single playthrough: there’s no way to start over. I didn’t play in years, mostly forgot how to play and would like to have a few tutorials, rediscover the open world again, etc.

rpg@ttrpg.network•DMs, what obscure lore have your players not discovered?
11·9 months agoThere’s a talking dragon waiting to share their wisdom and power with the party. He is, like, a couple hours away from the city everyone spends like a few sessions in, preparing to be sieged. NPCs are all talking about how great were the legendary times when dragons were helping dwarves with defending the city. There are dragon claw marks on the city walls. A geographer sponsored by one of my party members tells stories like:
“There was once a cavern just here, near the city, where lived an ancient dragon. And you know what? People don’t talk about this place anymore, it isn’t on any recent map and nobody goes here. Ever. What could be hidden there? Who knows? If only someone could, like, walk in here and take a look”.
Nope, never happened. My party destroyed the whole damn dark forces army all by themselves and left the city. They are now heading to the cooking contest organised by a pixies queen.

As a parent I would just install a door closer in this case. Yes, it is kinda ridiculous. But the kid still has a door.
