I’m watching it and trying to figure out if it’s like a parody video or a serious recommendation?
The comments on the video are super weird as well. Can someone please tell me I’m not going crazy and that the majority of the people in the YT comments have been huffing solvents / aren’t real?
Also fishing for any good ‘best way to clean your drivetrain’ videos that are less weird and potentially wrong
I think it’s serious, GT85 is advertised as being a cleaner and remove dirt, while also lubricating due to PTFE content.
Now:
I think it’s treated a bit like WD40 with its “magical” properties, they are both water displacing compounds that help clean away dirt.
As anyone would say: just wax your chain ;)
Wax your chain, then cleaning is just gently blowing away little wax chips. For OP, yes this a serious recommendation. Waxing has come a long way in the past few years. It’s kind of a chore, but really not that bad. Much less hassle than all the headache described in that video.
Yet, AfaIk, the generic WD40 is not a lubricant and should not be used for bike chains.
Indeed, it just keeps things clean! “Magical” was meant ironically, this video shows a similar approach with another product. Oversimplification (where it’s not needed, as cleaning, degreasing and lubricating are quite straightforward things…)
