Honestly, if any incoming woman should have kept her name and gone straight to the main roster, it’s Mariah fucking May, who came in directly from being a main event talent for AEW. The fact that she’s being treated like this says so goddamn much.
I feel like, if they saw the value in her name, they would have worked out some kind of licensing agreement or something so she could retain ownership and they could still use it. They’ve done it for plenty of other wrestlers.
And it’s telling how WWE is the only promotion with this “we must own your name” gimmick. Even other major promotions, like AEW and NJPW, somehow manage to promote talent without having to rename them.
