  • “B**ches” can be considered a slur in some circles as it’s used to target women who fight for feminism.

That said, the word in French is not really used that way, and has a direct masculine equivalent in a way the English version does not.

IMO it’s insulting but not a slur

Edit: Also “slurs” are not a thing in France, the best characterization you’ll get for the n-word for example would be “insulte à caractère raciale”, so racial insult, which is also illegal. But there is no common denominator between this, and the word f*g or insults targeting other minorities, each are qualified by who they insult and generally illegal for who they target.

  • I think it’s because, on one hand, it’s an engineering feat (useful or not) but also it’s one that is immediately visible and measurable. It’s useless beyond the novelty, as we saw with the iPhone Air, but it’s still impressive.

Also there is a history of great functionality being born from miniaturization. I’m not sure we’ll see much of that happening anymore, the low hanging fruits and nearly every other avenues have been explored, and it’s much less a problem of engineering as much as it is chemistry and physics. Unless you sacrifice usability for the sake of the feat.

So I agree with you that it’s not bringing much to the table, but I think there is an interest in pursuing it for one’s career

  • I sure hope that’s not true. Cars already are a nightmare of inefficiency and should ultimately be reserved to some very specific usecases – giving access so flying pods to everyone is possibly the worst possible method of transportation ever thought of.

Not only for the environment, as those would be mighty inefficient, but also for safety; people love clowning on Boeing but letting the auto industry make aircrafts will give us a lot more to be anxious about.

Also, when a car fails, or a conductor has an emergency, in most cases the car just stops, we don’t end up with a ton of steel tumbling down at 200km/h on buildings, random people and other flying vehicles
