  • Sucks that they’re likely to lose viewers because they chose to go so slowly, possibly leading to the cancellation of this otherwise very good show. Most of the episodes are twice as long as they need to be, in other words we could get twice the story in the same amount of episodes they have planned with no loss of quality, and it would be a much better show.

Every scene could have been shorter, and several could have been skipped. Did we really need massage, cards, train, and diner? No.

Oh well, I’m still happy to have something decent to watch.

  • I was sitting at a stop sign, waiting to turn right, and watched a horrible car accident happen right in front of me. A small car had pulled out into the intersection just before I pulled up to the stop. It slowed down, in the middle of the road, maybe it stalled, I don’t know. I looked to the left and saw a pickup truck coming around the curve, going too fast, straight toward the car. The truck hit the small car so hard that it launched into the air and rolled, landing on its roof. A couple got out of the small car, apparently uninjured. I read in the news the next day that the truck driver died.

I’d had a cell phone for less than a year at that point, this was a long time ago. I called 911, and by the time I was done with the call, traffic had backed up behind the cars, and people were out surrounding both cars. So, I just continued on home.

  • Found on Reddit:

I’m a dentist and I can tell you exactly what he likely meant. Slovenia of course was never a part of the USSR but the USSR had largely friendly ties with Yugoslavia, which Slovenia was a part of. And part of that was knowledge exchange in Healthcare between the Soviets and Yugoslavia/Slovenia.

The USSR developed a number of… Interesting… dental techniques independently of the west. To be clear, these techniques DO work, but they are distinctive and a little bizarre to us westerners. So your dentist likely looked in your mouth, saw some of those techniques – which are occasionally done in the US as well, largely from ex-Soviet/ex-communist dentists – and made the connection. As for why he asked Slovenia specifically? A lot of Slovenian dentists migrated to the US and brought their know-how over.

  • This was my ride in high school, but I was with you otherwise.

I forgot my lock one day so left it in the rack hoping no one would notice it wasn’t locked. It was gone by the end of the day. I saved up from my first job the previous summer to buy it. I was heart-broken. So, the next summer, I did it again, and bought a Shogun 600. I ended up leaving that bicycle behind when I moved out of state and couldn’t fit it in my car with everything else. I still miss that bike.

  • I’m an old man browsing this on LibreWolf on a Linux Mint desktop. If I can do it, anyone can.

Having said that, running across a FOSS app that only runs on Windows that I want to run, has me thinking I need to rebuild and dual boot Win 10 IOT. Frustrating. I just learned that while installing Linux next to Windows works, because of course it does, installing Windows next to Linux does not. Because, again, of course, Windows is an asshole. So, that means I’d need to nuke Linux, install Windows, then reinstall Linux. And, that seems like… a lot. I might still do it, though.

EDIT: The app I want to run needs access to my nvidia card. So a VM won’t work, I already tried it.

  • Twenty-minutes worth of episode stretched to 45 minutes.

Also, Carol put a shot gun in her golf bag and didn’t use it. Chekhov’s gun denied. For now.

I think Diabaté has the right idea. Not Vegas, necessarily, but generally just experiencing and enjoying what there is to do, now that there are no limits. Also, consider that while they “can’t pick the apple”, they seem to have no problem eating what is already picked–the warehouses full of produce. So, while the vast majority may starve, they don’t all need to die. The unconverted could band together, and do the harvesting part, which seems to be the only roadblock–keeping a small community alive as long as the unconverted live. Small tribes would probably persist, regardless.

  • This Old Tony. He doesn’t post a lot anymore, but everything he posts is gold.

Lock Picking Lawyer. Short, to the point and always entertaining.

Dale Philip. Best travel vlog on YouTube. Just a dude and his camera.

    Just Have a Think.

    Joe Scott.

Sabine Hossenfelder. I don’t understand most of what she talks about, but I like her moxie.

    Wheezy Waiter.

    Undecided with Matt Ferrell.

Technology Connection. Until recently, the past few years, it felt like he barely grasped the subject he was talking about. I like his vibe, he’s true to himself.
