4·2 years agoUnfortunately self-hosting requires a technical level that the vast majority doesn’t have or wish to develop. I totally understand why some people don’t want to fuck around with their own digital infrastructure, it’s a huge pain in the ass sometimes, and when something goes wrong (at it will at some point) you can quickly get to a place where the skill to get it running is nowhere near enough to fix it.

1·2 years agoI start the AC from my office which is probably 2-300m from my car with a large building between. That’s far outside the range of a key FOB, but it’s nice and cold in the summer (or warm on the winter) when I get to it.

0·2 years agoIDK, the ability to remote activate climate control, start/stop charging and control charge power to match my solar power are all quite good reasons for me to have my car connected.
We should be able to have nice things without surveillance. We shouldn’t refrain from these things, we should legislate so they’re not allowed to collect data and share it without explicit consent.

Technology@lemmy.world•A Chinese Humanoid Just Broke the Robot Speed Record—and Now It's a Race Against TimeEnglish
1·2 years agoMost races are not against time though… They’re against other competitors. The time it takes you is pretty irrelevant, as long as the others are slower.
It’s more or less only time trials that are races against time.
50F (or 40-60F) is not the most comfortable for…well, anyone i think. Thats pretty chilly for most people, with 60F being the low side of comfortable (both inside and outside). Most universally comfortable temperature range is probably around 70-80F, which is not really “around the middle” in that 0-100 range. 70F is ideal inside temperature, 80F is a nice warm summer day outside.

Technology@lemmy.world•European crash tester says carmakers must bring back physical controlsEnglish
0·2 years agoTechnically the only thing you’re allowed to fiddle with, while driving, is what you can operate from the steering wheel. You’re not supposed to fiddle with radio, AC etc. from the center console while driving even if it’s physical buttons.
I know people don’t drive like this, but you’re only allowed to take your hands off the steering wheel for changing gears if driving a manual, otherwise it’s two hands on there at all times…technically

0·2 years agoI’ve only used the upper end of the forerunner line. But getting 18+ days from the fenix with regular sports use seems well above spec, they spec it with up to 57h in GPS mode and 18d in regular smart watch mode without sports activities.

0·2 years agoI’ve never gotten more than a week tops from my Garmin watches, a handful of runs and it needs a recharge. And I need to fully charge it if it’s a long run or risk it dying on me while I’m running.

My dad is pretty unhappy with his Mercedes EQS which costs significantly more than the model S, it also had issues with loose interior trim and panel gaps. And despite the fairly high price point its still riddled with shitty plastic interior. It kind of feels like all manufacturers are rushing stuff out the door at the cost of QC.
