FarFarAway@startrek.websiteto Technology@lemmy.world•Luigi Mangione, CEO shooting suspect, is a tech workerEnglish1·7 months agoThe future vice president of America is close with the leaders of the neoreactionary movement. I suppose, I wonder if a positive public opinion would make it easier for them to mobilize.
Edit: ending up with support from both sides of the isle.
FarFarAway@startrek.websiteto Technology@lemmy.world•Luigi Mangione, CEO shooting suspect, is a tech workerEnglish2·7 months agoThat’s a sensible way to look at it. People’s actions can be separate from thier outlook, and that’s ok.
FarFarAway@startrek.websiteto Technology@lemmy.world•Luigi Mangione, CEO shooting suspect, is a tech workerEnglish1·7 months agoFair take. That wasn’t my intention, although, now, I suppose that maybe a natural progression.
I admit, there is definitely a disconnect, considering his actions, but, I really am torn on the idea. I guess, I question that if (and big if) his intention is to build this type of future, would his actions be enough to make others sympathetic to his cause? If, or at what point, people turn away?
FarFarAway@startrek.websiteto Technology@lemmy.world•Luigi Mangione, CEO shooting suspect, is a tech workerEnglish5·7 months agoDoes everyone still feel the same if he turns out to be a neoreactionary / accelerationist?
Per The San Francisco Standard
Mangione gave Ted Kaczynski’s book “Industrial Society and Its Future” four out of five stars, writing that the man known as the Unabomber was “rightfully imprisoned” for “maiming innocent people” but noting that his actions were “those of an extreme political revolutionary.”
Mangione’s social media accounts paint a picture of a tech enthusiast with a soft spot for conservative thinkers. He has retweeted posts from right-wing capitalists like Peter Thiel and lists an applauding biography of Elon Musk as one of his favorites on GoodReads.

There were accounts, posting seemingly “up to date” information with no way to really fact check. There were some political “personal” accounts just testing the waters with BS. Stuff like: “It’s me. I’m not going to say anything else yet, but, here I am.” It made it kinda hard to discern.

He is 42 and draws it for mental illness.English7·7 months agoIf Trump somehow can eliminate taxes on social security, the fund will have to reduce benefits sooner than projected. The cut will only benefit 40% of recipients that pay taxes, and that lack of extra funds comming into the system will bring it closer to insolvency, sooner rather than later. So unless your brother is one the 40% that will immediately benefit from the tax cut, he’ll get to look forward to lower payments sometime in the nearer future.

This. No one realizes that your probably not gonna make it to 100 in perfect health. If your body doesn’t go, it will be your mind. Either way, it does not sound appealing.
If nothing else, the arthritis has gotten so bad, you wanna off yourself anyways.
Hard pass.
FarFarAway@startrek.websiteto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why don't schools simulate a typical 9 to 5 work week for students and remove homework entirely?1·5 months agoNot that I think this is the way, I don’t, but…
With the amount of time it takes to train a completely green person off the street, even at seemingly menial tasks, im not sure corporations would actually allow this.
Although, they arent paying a wage, this plan would eat into real production time and materials, and with this “just in time,” software oriented, prefab mindset they have, overall i think they would still lose money.
Sure they don’t have to train people to think anymore, but even operating machinery correctly or following a preset design, is rough for alot of people.
The struggle to find knowledgeable, skilled labor is real, but unless paid people are taking time out of thier day to teach these interns the ins and outs of a machine or how to read plans, said intern wouldn’t learn jack squat. Unless the company has time and money to kill, at the very least, trade school is still required.
Nah, corporations would never go for it.
Everything about trump reminds me of my grandmother. She was always “just resting her eyes.”
