  • I think there’s a difference between “these are a huge waste of time, and always has been. Reddit slop!”

    And

“Man, these comics aren’t for me. The punchline never lands, or the art style is a bit strange and takes me out of it”, etc.

The first kind of negativity contributes very little to any sort of discussion other than to be inflammatory. The second one actually invites the discussion you mention in the comment I’m replying to.

    'least… that’s how I see it.

  • Sorry, mega hectic day at work today. Just wanted to say I really, really REALLY appreciate your answer.

I am using the correct drivers for Nvidia, but I dunno why I’m getting such weird framerates. Probably because I shy away from upscaling and the like. That being said, I do like the idea of AMDs stability and openness to driver handling. I’ll have to chew on this for a bit, but thank you!

  • I think I’m at the top of mount stupid, because I’m certainly not competent.

I started with Linux Mint and daily drove that for a while. Really liked it too. Then I noticed that screen sharing ssssuuucked when playing games, and since Mint’s Wayland didn’t want to work on my machine, I decided to jump ship.

I’m currently on Nobara (Glorious Eggroll’s Fedora flavor) and… it’s just pretty easy to work with.

Or maybe I’m at the know nothing stage, along with PopOS

  • “Sorry, working” is a completely acceptable response. It sets up the idea that you’re still interested in communicating, but can’t right now.

If you don’t have time to make a quick message like that, then don’t answer right now. Wait until you’re on break or off work and then pick up the conversation. An answer that raises more questions than it answers is just frustrating for all parties involved, you included since you get more questions :P

(Realized while looking at this that it sounds like I’m addressing this to you specifically. I’m not. I’m just sharing my thoughts on how to communicate that one’s at work in general, so sorry if it comes across as accusatory)

  • I think a lot of documentation just fly over my head. I have a masters degree in mathematics, but so many manuals have such deeply ingrained “tribal” language that everyone takes for granted that you know.

If you have a good starting point for a poor linux noob to read manuals, hit me up.

(That being said, I DO read the manuals for appliances and all that. THAT stuff is luckily easy)

  • I used premiere a lot when I had windows. Great program (begrudgingly) that crashes too often. After swapping to Linux, i also jumped to DaVinci. It’s different, but also really good. There are some limitations in the Linux version, especially when it comes to audio, and I had to change my game recording setup a bit, but once those kinks were ironed out, it was all good!

I wish you the best of luck, friend! You’re going to have a blast
