That’s because your eye is not a camera. Rembrandt would have his students make the OK symbol with their hand and put it up to their nose. What’s in the circle should be detailed and focused and everything out should be diffused because that’s how the eye works in reality. We don’t pick up detail all at once like a camera does. Something my painting teacher told me in the last class

Bud I’ve been doing this seriously for only a year, you can get there too no problem. Just take a class that can set you on your way and you can get there in no time. It’s easier than ever to learn with how much info is out there. Plus I’m not even that good, the more I do it the more I realize I need to learn
