Eh, while I can’t judge how much flat out direct racism there still is (though, individual rather than systemic in that case) affirmative action has always seemed like a lazy shortcut to me that’s better than nothing but only works because of the correlation that black people in the US tend to be poor (reason: see OP). A black kid born into a wealthy household still gets an easier life than a white kid born into a trailer park. Doing it properly would mean helping those of lower socioeconomic status (which will also mostly help minorities) rather than going purely off correlating factors.

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes@lemmy.zip•[News] Lords of the Fallen 2 Will Have 'Attractive Female Characters' in 'Revealing Outfits', CEO Says
8·12 days agoThe irony of claiming games need to avoid political agendas, to then talk about A/B body type being “a mistake” lol
I guess it’s just the corpo pendulum swinging back from “if we include a gay character thats progressive right? Right???” to “if we include sexy characters they won’t say we’re woke right? Right???”.
Maybe some day they will understand that ultimately people just care that the game is good. Though I guess controversy is marketing, and not enough people will care to not but a game over some dumb comments to offset that.
Though while I’d never heard of the game, I certainly won’t be buying it now. But I suppose that means not shutting up didn’t lose them a sale since I wouldn’t have known it existed otherwise.
Interesting that it’s that low, the hotels I went to in japan were all above 10k jpy (~600€) for cleaning fee if you smoke in the room. It makes sense though with how persistent smoke smell can be.

9·13 days agoNot so fun fact: the microscopic bits of poop just spray to different places if you close the lid, but there’s just as many.
Second not so fun fact: mythbusters tested this as well and found that there’s microscopic poop bits everywhere anyway, and they will get on everything.

9·13 days agoSome old ones do. And yes the smell before you flush is as horrible as you’d expect. The combination of diarrhea and one of those toilets made me almost throw up once.
I’ve noticed that my windows always takes a minute to launch when it wants to sell me on either its surveillance bullshit or force windows 11 on me. And because I don’t launch windows that often, that is basically every time. Otherwise it’s quite fast at 10-15 seconds.
Linux usually boots in around 10 seconds (including loading the DE after login), though sometimes it gets stuck for a bit after login for some reason.
It would be minus the part where the entire republican platform is unhinged far right shit so I’d judge people for that.
1 I and likely the vast majority of people have never seen stated anywhere because I prefer my sanity intact by not following everything some terf says (and I’d agree that is a better reason to not buy it, though I’d still say she’s almost a billionaire anyway so a lot of other things people do have just as bad of an impact), 2 is honestly just delusion on her part and kind of irrelevant, she would find different reasons to continue her bs.
Also to be clear saying “I think you streaming this game is morally wrong” to a creator you already watch/in other relevant contexts is of course completely fine, harrassment is not.

Which is just as bad lol. Feel free to boycott people for streaming it or giving it publicity if you truly think it matters, but personally attacking them over giving a spinoff of an already extremely famous persons work that actively disagrees with the main reason everyone hates said person a slight bit of exposure is honestly unhinged.
You probably cause more harm by buying a single product on amazon than by buying and streaming hogwarts legacy.

Bluesky@lemmy.world•"I don't like Muslims" is a valid steam review according to Valve
462·16 days agoBased dev and I wishlistrd that game because it looks fun and I want to support them for the response alone, but I think I kind of agree with that decision, or can at least see where it’s coming from. Disliking a game for its political message seems entirely valid to me, if someone made an otherwise amazing game but the message is “hitler was great actually”, I’d like to be able to negatively review that. And since it’s not review bombing but actual individual idiots, it shouldn’t have a big impact wrt to the ratio. If anything I read a review like that and become more interested in the game. Allowing it at least keeps them honest.
Though “it has muslims” as a negative review reason still seems like it should be removed just for being racist (or if i were to give the reviewer way more benefit of the doubt than they deserve, sounding racist. I guess in theory they could just not like religions in games, but let’s be real they’d love if it were christians instead).

World News@lemmy.world•Just 0.001% hold three times the wealth of poorest half of humanity, report findsEnglish
9·18 days agoI would call it systemic, in fact I’d argue it’s the central flaw of capitalism (but one that imo can be mostly fixed with heavy regulation and taxes scaling to near 100% as you say).
When wealth = power, those with wealth will always attract even more wealth.

3·21 days agoOh don’t worry, something will fill the niche. And at that point the “too many humans” problem will have solved itself.
We’re so fucked
Many herbivore species are also opporturnistic omnivores, so it could be argued just as much that it’s about biological specialization.
Pc players being fewer depends very much on the game, the ea sports games are notoriously console heavy to the point where often the features of the pc version were heavily outdated. Iirc battlefield’s playerbase was historically always more PC focused. And I don’t think it’s fair to complain that pc games run like shit because they don’t cap the graphics.
If you’re just gonna play a few games a year, consoles are without a doubt cheaper right now though. They also don’t have the ability to play any of the games I regularly play, but that, like the playerbase, is entirely dependent on the individual.
Yea it’s more I’d say if it’s a scale from 0 to 1 I’m somewhere in the interval from 0.45 to 0.55. I’m hella competitive but I also have no fun just following a meta.
I’m definitely johnny. I find a playstyle/character/build/whatever applies I like and then I’ll minmax the shit out of it. But I won’t just switch to what’s meta.
I care a decent amount. I won’t spend insane amounts on equipment because I simply don’t hear a quality difference, but both my pairs of headphones were around 250€. I can honestly tolerate most 10€ trash for a bit with some eq adjustment but it’s just noticably worse.
I often spend half an hour or even two hours in the evening just listening to music when I was supposed to just go to sleep. In that case I usually click from youtube video to youtube video, I find that MVs can also add a lot to the experience. Otherwise I mainly have one playlist that I put most songs I like into, if they fit the general vibe of what I want for my generalist playlist.
I always feel a need to share the music I love with ppl but everyone I know either doesn’t care or follows the same artists anyway. So since you asked… (this is gonna be mostly japanese, and mostly metal)
Probably my current favorite artist is Release Hallucination, japanese prog metal with jazz influences. The drum patterns tickle my brain in the right way. Sisters is probably my favorite from them.
There’s also Utsu-P, who imo is an incredible songwriter and lyricist who in his newer songs does all sorts of metal genre fusions, usually but not always with vocaloid vocals. Musically, I love Gorgon the most (best genre description would be… trap metalcore with a speedcore breakdown?). I also always find myself coming back to An Alien’s I Love You because I just find the song very touching, in spite of my japanese being very basic and thus only understanding like a fifth of it without subtitles. He also has a pretty cool band called Ohayo Gozaimasu.
Then there’s this great german metalcore band (very poppy and catchy sound, but high variety in song styles and meaningful lyrics) called Future Palace, we’re on lemmy so I’ll just link the song that’s not-so-subtly about the palestinian genocide.
Then there’s kobaryo who does just about every EDM genre under various aliases, though his main thing is speedcore. His entire latest album is just great - all the credited featured artists are just him under different aliases.
Honorable mention to the little subcommunity of metal vtubers doing mostly covers, many of which I like better than the original, such as this cover of make them suffer’s song contraband which was apparently my most listened to song last year.
Last but not least my favorite singer is also a Vtuber, by the name of Roca Rourin, who does regular karaoke streams that I enjoy so much I try to schedule other things around so I don’t miss them, and then I just listen to her sing for an hour. She does a lot of 80s songs, classic rock, and jazz, but also a little bit of everything. By nature of them being karaoke streams there’s often a little scuff, but imo that just adds to the charm and my god the voice on this woman. This is a good example of one of those. She also has a great cover of The Pretender.
I could continue but this would go on forever lol.
In spite of the obvious genre bias, I enjoy a wide variety of music when I’m in the mood for it. The only hugely popular genre I can’t get into is hip hop/rap, but even that has a few exceptions.

6·1 month agoAlmost like that’s the point (and not entirely US-exclusive anyway)

If god is omnipotent he could just snip his fingers and will satan out of existence.
Something like the great flood is also a horrible evil when, god being omnipotent, he could just snip his fingers and make people not sinners.
If he’s not actually omnipotent, sure, then a lot of things change, though overall I wouldn’t describe old testament god in particular as kind anyway. Also people seem to really insist on the omnipotence.
