21·3 months agoYeah, sharing with cars is fine on gravel roads and small country roads, but even moderate amounts of traffic on rural roads makes for a pretty unpleasant and daunting experience in my opinion. I do hope quebec improves the Route Verte, hopefully it can serve as an example for the rest of Canada.
The Go train can be used ti get further out and there is some good cycling not far from Hamilton and a lot of good multi day routes out of kitchener like the BT700 but im personally a little underwhelmed by southern Ontario geography, its very fast and goes through lots of farmland, and the on-road portions cam often be sketchy. I have had an overnighter in mind that I’ve wanted to try out from Barrie that would take me north into the shield, but its a route I sort of made up myself and haven’t had a chance to scope it out. Im a bit nervous to attempt an unknown route but I may just go for it and hope for the best since I wont be too far from help if something goes wrong.

3·3 months agoIt’s a mining company that is registered in Canada as it is a very favorable jurisdiction for mining companies. This is not the first instance of Canadian mining companies fucking up the environment in the global south and it wont be the last. Im no expert in international law but I feel like the Canadiam government could be doing more to discourage this kind of behavior from Canadian companies.
I personally like scihub because it’s easier to get papers off of rather than going through my library’s portal for a lot of journals.

Scalability is a big problem to tackle for sure and I largely agree that carbon sequestration should not be our number one solution to pollution. It infuriates me to no end that these things aren’t even solved problems and yet still touted as reasons why we can keep pumping oil and gas and building pipelines.

7·7 months agoHaha right? It’s literally a paper about core–mantle interaction and they go with “THERES GOLD IN THE CORE!” People really only care about geology when it’s about finding ore deposits or oil. Except kids, kids love geology because rocks are cool. Adults need to be more like kids when it comes to science.

Technology@lemmy.world•Brian Eno: “The biggest problem about AI is not intrinsic to AI. It’s to do with the fact that it’s owned by the same few people”English
3·9 months agoThis is an interesting argument that I’ve never heard before. Isn’t the question more about whether ai generated art counts as a “derivative work” though? I don’t use AI at all but from what I’ve read, they can generate work that includes watermarks from the source data, would that not strongly imply that these are derivative works?
I haven’t been able to find any info on that either than that Anna’s Archive mirrors sci-hub and that sci-hub has not been updated since 2021 so Anna’s Archive has a more up to date database.
I have found Anna’s Archive to be more reliable than sci-hub
How often does this actually happen? The cases where this does occur stand out because they are rare. I really hate the implication that scientists are not trustworthy because some individuals acted in bad faith. Scientific fraud is real but it doesn’t mean you can’t trust science.

Its a plant, but I dont know if its a true mustard
