Yes, but it is a step. It could be as simple as learning more about an animal or even a tv show. Fan spaces can be anywhere. Libraries exist and frequently have free activities for people to attend. I’m not saying it’s easy, but having something to talk about is better than nothing.
Get interested in the world around you in some way and then meet up with others with those same interests.
I love the prairies and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else (I get claustrophobic in places where I can’t see enough of the sky). But when the northern half of Canada is burning there isn’t really anywhere to move to that won’t be affected.

There is a legit theory in historical circles that Galileo Galilei was brcause he clearly didn’t understand some social conventions. Additionally, he was really ok with home arrest.
Technically speaking I am not allowed to work from home. However, because of the wildfire smoke being so bad this year and because I have such sensitive asthma, on smoky days I am allowed to work from home. This is throwing off my schedule and routine so badly.
I was working at Payless shoes over a decade ago when this happened. I was brought in from a different store because turn over was so high at our downtown location. Everything was ok for a month or two then my till was short. That had never happened to me before, but apparently I had “miscounted” the coins at close. Never happened to me before but we are all human, maybe I made a mistake.
Next day I close and again my till was short according to the manager. There was 1 problem, just to show that it wasn’t me slaking I had sent pictures in of my count and the log sheets to the district manager just to cover my ass. Manager wouldn’t hear me out and took me off the schedule for the week.
I used what would have been my shift to hand out résumés. I was immediately hired next door at a different retail store. I walk 1 door down and tell manager I quit.
Now the fun bit comes in. Turns out I wasn’t short on my till. The manager was running a scam to keep his store numbers up and to skim some off the top as well. He would “buy” small items on his credit card and then reverse the charge on the credit card machine. So it looked like he was selling things, but he wasn’t. Even worse he would return these on later dates so he would get the refund money.
He would cover it up by claiming he had an employee theft problem/employee incompetence problem. If an employee stayed to long/annoyed him/got to close to figuring him out he would make them short on till on their shift like he did with me/something similar just to get them fired. He was caught partially because I sent in photo proof that something weird was happening.

The Apothecary Diaries series has been pretty good so far. Enough quirky characters and situations to not get to dark, but some definite darkness so it doesn’t get to sweet.
The Magic Engineer is the third in The Saga of Recluse series. Overall I enjoy Modesitt, but it also is clearly a cheap paperback fantasy from the 90s. It’s fun tracking down these second hand and they are fun reads. However, I enjoyed the first 3 books in his Imager series more.

I’m excited as I made some homemade soup yesterday and will be delivering it to sick family members today. I’m not excited they are sick, but it is a tradition I want to get into (delivering homemade food to friends and family when they are sick or feeling down).

I agree your going to find it hard to be interested solely for hookups. But if you focus on what is available around you, you may find something new that you like. As well as, have an opportunity to meet new people. I also feel if you are going only to hookup with someone you are cheating yourself out of what could be a full experience. Focus on the event, enjoying yourself, and meeting new people; if you do that you’ll naturally meet people who may want to hookup witb you.
