I’d love to see entertainment democratized. That was kind of the promise of Netflix and YouTube that was sold to us 20 years ago. It was supposed to allow room for many artists to bloom and prosper and find audiences. Unfortunately, that was kind of a false promise and now we still have superstars who suck up the world’s entertainment resources. I want to watch more local bands. I want to watch more independent movies. Taylor swift is just an advertising agency at this point. She’s just a marketing agency with one client.

Maybe just maybe we should not reward people who bought fake internet money to speculate with. Or pay entertainers the salary of 1,000 people lol
My aunt and uncle went on a state sponsored trip and got the impression that they have a stronger middle class than we do. From what I can piece together I’d tend to agree. But ya I guess we’ll know for sure with more hindsight.
Gotta love the two biggest economy’s in the world and you can’t find/trust good data

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was a time when you drank the kool aid?
31·7 hours agoAll of that is infact socialism. Taxing individuals and creating community services. It’s like the core tenant or our education system which is socialist, even if it failed to teach you that. It’s the core tenant of social security and Medicare. Those third rail policies that everyone loves? It’s socialism.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was a time when you drank the kool aid?
3·7 hours agoHahah socialism. Like subsidies for farmers who grow corn for ethanol? Or like subsidies for Amazon warehouses. Or should we only do socialism and when banks gamble to hard and collapse? Or socialism like getting a government/military jobs to avoid poverty?

13·1 day agoShhhh these kids only heard about Palestine 2 years ago and anything that happened before that is irrelevant! I just came from a post where they were advocating for Palestine to have nukes to deter the USA. Your history has no power here!

1·1 day agoAn independent democracy who choices its fate at the voting polls every year in November…… surely they won’t suffer for their actions! Yes it’s unfair to judge a country by their civic action over the last 100 years.
Umm do you want to break those numbers down for the bottom 75% or earners? Or the median? I believe that is just the billionaire holding up the statistic that the Fed is presenting. Also, those numbers were in billions representing the whole country not an individual in thousands……

41·1 day agoI still believe the time old tale, no one bothers North Korea because the humanitarian crisis it would cause… they don’t have a scary amount of nukes. Nor do they have the means to deliver them to us.
Lot of people in this sub really don’t understand nuclear doctrine or MAD. They don’t just make enemy’s go away, they just make them point more nukes at you…

At least when it was Hillary there was valid criticism of warmongering and Wall Street pandering / bribes. Getting people to vote based on her laugh really shows the type of citizens we’re dealing with. They probably love this article!
