  • Rarely do rulers actually scale from cm to 1mm. You typically need calipers to make measurements smaller than 2mm.

I’m pretty sure most rulers and measuring tapes I’ve ever seen had 1 mm markings.

We’re talking rulers of typically 10-30 cm marked length and made of plastic or metal, and longer measuring tapes made of either flimsy metal (in a casing with a lock-button) or those softer textile tapes.

The only exception I can think of, that has only 1 cm markings, is a wooden 1 m teachers’ ruler made for blackboard use. But you do you with the calipers.

  • because you can break a foot into 12 inches, which is divisible by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (yes, still wouldn’t be irrational), and 6.

    12 ÷ 5 = 2.4

Yeah, I get the idea that 12 is nicer than 10 to divide by 3, 4 and 6, but I’m pretty sure that 2.4 is an irrational number.

Edit: Is this what makes it somewhat useful anyway?:

    2.4 × 10 = 24
    12 × 2 = 24

    So, for instance,

    120 ÷ 5 = 24

    would still be useful?

  • Interesting list! The fact that it includes “En man som heter Ove” and general Astrid Lindgren recommendations indicates to me that the rest of your mentions that are unknown to me must be worth checking out.

I generally prefer original audio with subtitles for most things I watch, but a great exception would be all those Astrid Lindgren movies, which I believe many people from my country would agree with. The reason, at least to me, is nostalgic. Many generations of kids here grew up with some very soothing narrator dubs on top of the original audio, and these few well-known voices are a wonderful addition. We still hear the original actors’ voices below, but a single calm voice throughout each movie tells us in summary who’s saying what and what’s going on. But that’d be the exception.

  • Morgens Haribol, abends Katjex

    EDIT:

It’s actually almost an option, according to an article from 2022 on Welt.de:

Es wirkt fast wie ein Scherz: Ausgerechnet der Fruchtgummi-Hersteller Katjes übernimmt die Zahnpasta-Marke Theramed vom Dax-Konzern Henkel

    Or, in English:

It almost looks like a joke: the fruit gum manufacturer Katjes of all places takes over the toothpaste brand Theramed from the Dax Group Henkel

Very clever, I think, for one company to sell the “poison” and the “antidote”!

But I also think that means we could add Theramed-brand products to the list of EU toothpastes?

  • Does the PDF contain all the products of all the brands associated with each top-level US company (owner)? If not, the LLM can help finding the connections between product/brand and US-based owner, given that it was trained on data about those relations. However, if the relevant training data is lacking or faulty, it could also sometimes result in wrong answers… (but with confidence!)
