For those unaware: RSS is still a thing and still works. You don’t need fancy platforms and algorithms to follow sites that post stuff you care about. Just an RSS catcher.
On F-Droid, Capy Reader does a great job and supports full article downloads to circumvent the sites that only put previews on RSS.
This is a good take. I remind players all the time that even though I’m GMing I’m a player too. I’m just playing a slightly different game. I’m here to have fun and enjoy myself, not babysit.
For my personal games I am as well.
“Make friends with gamers, don’t make gamers out of friends” is an old tabletop adage that took me a long time to really learn.
For public stuff the best that can usually be mustered are safety tools and clear guidelines. But (rarely, thankfully) some people are just there to sabotage.
I GM public games and games at conventions, so sometimes it still crops up. People don’t always make it readily apparent ahead of game time that they’re going to pull shenanigans like this.
My fix has always been: that’s fine! They go off on their own adventures. Now please roll a character that’s going to play the game we’re running here tonight.
I run gritty low magic games with death and safety tools. Which group do I join!?
I can’t speak to journaling because it has never worked for me, but as a fellow anxiety-haver now approaching his 40s: please talk to someone if you’re able.
You’ll find every reason and excuse not to, you’ll tell yourself it’s not that bad. You’ll minimize your problems. You’ll self-medicate and self-therapize without even realizing it’s what you’re doing.
Proper medication and/or therapy is absolutely critical and life-changing. Please don’t wait to go, it’s genuinely worth the hassle and effort it requires.
Runbox.com! I’ve been using them for years after Lavabit was shutdown. Based out of Norway, affordable, and privacy focused.
I love Tony’s, but they’re also reportedly higher in lead content than other brands.

Valrhona is a solid non-American brand pick from the list of safer chocolate and they’re B-Corp certified. I believe their parents company is French.
When it comes to chocolate you’re often forced to pick your poison, so to speak.
I have a startling revelation. Upon closer inspection it was a piece of wood.
I have lied to you all.
Oh weird, I didn’t even think about that. Yeah anything with dynamic ads would likely set them per country, I suppose. So some places wouldn’t have anything to go in the slot.
I don’t know if it’s open-minded per se, I just like people having good discussion. Like I don’t give a shit about astrophysics, but I’ll listen to an astrophysicist explain what excites him all day. I listen to my SO gush about fountain pens all the time, but have no interest in them whatsoever. If I only listened to things I had a pre-existing interest in then I’d never discover anything new to enjoy.
One of the podcasts someone recommended in this thread is just two dudes dunking on Alex Jones. I don’t give a shit about Alex Jones, he seems like a dirtbag. But listening to them dunk on him is hilarious!
You know what I like? People talking passionately about stuff they like. I also don’t like ads. It’s not that hard to figure out, not sure why you’re coming in so hot.
Hearing people with passion explain things they’re knowledgeable about is fun, enlightening, and interesting to me. Sue me.
While I’m at it, got any book recommendations?
Very possible! The podcast host I use offers a few kinds of ad services so there’s no telling. I don’t use them so I’m not totally sure how they work, but I’ve seen the options when I log in.
I’m not sure it’s a very good story but the fx and stuff all has so much heart that’s it’s hard to dislike it. Overall we’re having a lot of fun with it, even when we’re kind of laughing at it rather than with it.
Popping back in to say that this is a really good show! Going right into the regular rotation, thanks for doing what you do.
Interesting, guess they started running ads recently. I wonder if they’ll begin injecting them into older shows eventually, I know some hosts offer that as a service.
Well dang, that’s unfortunate.
I had a Pixel on Google Fi with this. When I got a call I could tell my Pixel to answer, ask who was calling, and ask the purpose of their call. I could see their responses transcribed and press automated response buttons.
It was amazing. Not sure why other phones don’t support it, definitely a feature I miss.
