I haven’t had any issues with the steam version. Granted, I haven’t finished the game, but my only real complaint is that the battle speed is much faster than it was on SNES. It includes the anime cutscenes added into the PSX version without the massive lag that made that version effectively unplayable.

If they are training the AI with copyrighted data that they aren’t paying for, then yes, they are doing the same thing as traditional media piracy.
