Sounds like you don’t want the public knowing about the Shadow People who are constantly watching us, huh?

World News@lemmy.world•U.S. Has Captured Venezuelan President Nicolas MaduroEnglish
1·11 days agoI completely agree with you on all of those points. The present Venezuela invasion is totally heinous in my book.
Acting like Xi invading North Korea is the same thing as VZ is where I totally disagree with you.
Assuming the Chinese were to make a modicum of effort to prevent mass famine, I see the possible humanitarian boon as outweighing the international-relations consequences. Or to frame it differently, the crimes against humanity that North Korea has committed give China a valid casus belli.

My stance is that anyone who supports the sovereignty of the Kim Jong Un regime is a tankie.

Yeah, the wine is completely ridiculous.

I had mine stolen, because I wasn’t actively playing at the time and had no idea there was a migration or a deadline. So did many personal friends I used to play with. How is that a vibe?
if you look at my years of post history
I did and it’s a long stream of you angrily crashing out exactly like this. Smell shit everywhere ya go, might wanna check your feet, mate.

21·15 days agoMojang accounts were sold as a perpetual license, and the account changeover was a completely transparent strategy to terminate existing but dormant licenses so people have to rebuy the game.

15·15 days agoFlatpaks ship all the dependencies of the application (i.e. the libraries that the program uses) in a single bundle, which usually accounts for much of the size.
The upside to that is that flatpaked apps are universally compatible across distros; the downside is the file size.
Another catch to flatpaks is that they run in a sandboxed environment, and each application has its own varying levels of isolation from your main system. This can lead to unintuitive issues like not being able to see files you save in a flatpaked browser unless you save to
~/Downloads. This sandboxing does have some security benefits, but is not generally considered robust protection from malware.

Books@lemmy.world•Two Years After Cormac McCarthy’s Death, Rare Access to His Personal Library Reveals the Man Behind the MythEnglish
1·18 days agoIf you’re looking for another book that leans into those traits, Blood Meridian is the move.
McCarthy spent a staggering amount of energy researching the historical context and setting, so if those interest you, I can’t recommend Pekka Hamalainen’s (nonfiction) Comanche Empire strongly enough as a companion piece. It’s a beautiful condensation of the mindsets, lifestyles, and economic forces working on all the players in the narrative.
The lioness’ joke was kinda butchered by the typos though.

News@lemmy.world•The FDA Often Doesn’t Test Generic Drugs for Quality Concerns, So ProPublica DidEnglish
61·23 days agoI’ve talked about it before on here, but I’ll say it again because it hasn’t seen much press coverage:
I work on safety-critical biotech software regulated by the FDA. As of this year, the FDA started using LLMs to automatically review our submissions.
The FDA has been totally public about it, but it doesn’t take a genius to see how this scheme might land sideways.
