flux@lemmy.worldto PC Gaming@lemmy.world•So, I just finished the Last of Us.... can anyone recommend more games with a mature/adult narrative?14·2 months agoYes. A lot of games but many of them aren’t action/adventure. A plague tale is very close to the last of us in tone and storytelling , Disco Eylsum (Lots of reading but it is incredibly well written), spec ops: the line ( I would recommend not reading too much the story has some very good things that could be spoiled), Hellblade senua’s sacrifice (headphones recommend), Witcher 3 (If you want open world fantasy).

If episode one is awful I won’t continue. Maybe I weight them like episode 1 70% , 2 20%, but by episode 3 10%. So by episode 3 I 100% know if if I’m going to like a serialized TV show.
flux@lemmy.worldto [Dormant, move to !television@lemm.ee] Shows and TV@lemm.ee•How Many Episodes Should You Watch Before Quitting a TV Show? A Statistical AnalysisEnglish23·5 months agoInteresting read. I think episode 3 is the magic number. The first episode is actually a pilot they worked on and maybe rewrote or recut to get the actors and tone, etc. Sometimes the pilot is very different from the rest of the series. Episode 2 should be the actual tone and feel of the series but sometimes that can be difficult to get right so episode 3 is a make or break for me. By that time I should understand if I like the characters, understand motivations and something should have happened to peak my interest to keep watching. “Story of the week” or “non-serialized” shows I think are fine to check out another season episode if people are talking about it.
Yah. Got it. Just remember what punk is. DIY. You can use anything. Just remember what D. Boon said. “Punk is whatever we say it is”. Only fools follow rules. Good luck.
Punk on a budget? I can’t tell if this is a joke. Every punk I’ve ever known buys or steals from thrift shops, military supplies, and dumpsters behind clothing stores. It was all out of rejection of social norms and creativity of discarded materials. Duct tape, paint, spray paint, stencils, cardboard, safety pins, chains, ropes, needle and thread are all cheap. Egg whites or Elmers for hair spikes.
flux@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your favourite episode of a TV show, and why?18·7 months agoTwin Peaks season 3 episode 8 comes to mind. It might not be something I want to watch over and over but it’s probably the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on broadcast TV. A surrealism short film in the context of a series that both has a self contained story and speaks to the broad narrative of the series. Krzysztof Penderecki’s Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima, Nine in Nails, The Platters’ “My Prayer” on the soundtrack? Amazing! Still to this day I can not believe the artistic freedom allowed by Showtime to create this. Jaw was on the floor for the entire episode. I’ve felt for a long time that nothing could actually be new/shocking/different on broadcast TV. This changed my mind. Nothing has even been close imho.

I completely understand the view not to use money to restore but I think people outside France should understand how much this church is more than a religious symbol and has become a symbol of national identity. It is literally the center of where all roads are measured in Paris and France. It is the place where the Parisii people decided to plant roots and took the towns people almost 200 years to complete and is one of the oldest (standing) most impressive gothic cathedrals in France. Sainte-chapelle was built in 6 years for reference. We like to think the Effiel Tower is the symbol of France but Notre Dame by many is seen as the most important structure in French history. I guess what I’m saying is of all the buildings this and the Effiel tower are the two that France will never let go to ruin.
flux@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What song did you love until you found out what it was about?2·9 months agoOh I know. But minor threat and black flag used to have these neoNazis show up at their shows. I think he acknowledged that once he realized they wanted to use his frustration for oppression they stopped playing it. I think it was in, “this band could be your life”. Much like X hating the fans who cheered on “Johnny hit and run Pauline” from “decline of the western civilization”. It’s crazy how people twist things.
flux@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What song did you love until you found out what it was about?3·9 months agoSure but I think it is less immediate. In music we have to make a decision if they are speaking about themselves nonfiction or fiction and in a book or movie we assume they are creating fictional character.
flux@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What song did you love until you found out what it was about?8·9 months agoI think it’s really interesting how people interpret music completely different than other forms of art. People sometimes assume the worst instead of realizing that the singer is speaking from another perspective. So for example if a writer has a first person perspective of a killer/rapist you wouldn’t make an association that the author is anything of the sort. But if they wrote a song and sang it then people would question if they really felt that way. Polly is a great example. By many accounts (Kathleen Hanna , Kim Gordon) Cobain championed feminism and woman’s rights but the lyrics of Polly are brutal and from the perpetrator view. Randy Newman’s - Rednecks is a tough one to listen to. You can understand how it is trying to point out ignorance and racism like Blazing Saddles but it’s sung in first person and should never be played in a public setting. Oingo Bongo’s - Little Girs was always a bit creepy now seems to age poorly the more time has gone on. Minor Threat - Guilty of being white is a tough listen because you know racist people think this is a rallying cry instead of the emotionly reaction from a a teenage kid who was bullied in highschool for being white.
flux@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•In honor of the start spooky season (yay!), I have a question about an apparently beloved spooky meme/skit. What about "David S. Pumpkins" is so funny?4·10 months agoI’m going to say because it’s short, stupid catchy. Sometimes your brain goes to random places and then logic sets in. Ignoring typical reason is what makes absurdist comedy work. We obviously have a character playing it straight trying to figure it out getting more and more upset by the illogical which makes the bit work. The music is silly and not eerie at all and then getting scared freeze frame when they continue to point out the character is not scary is the kicker and sort of makes it worth it. This was probably just a random skit they threw in last minute and thought, just have fun. A lot of hit songs are simple, obvious, stupid and catchy. Rick James thought Superfreak was a throw away song too dumb to be on the album and it’s his most recognized song.
flux@lemmy.worldto Movies@lemmy.world•Victoria (2015) - a film recorded in a single take. Highly recommended.English5·11 months agoGreat movie. I’ve seen many with the “one take” premise. Time code, Russian Ark and the ones that pretend but don’t really. Rope and snake eyes. Victoria is an amazing feat of filmmaking.
Amazing photo. So cool to see. When I see things like this I wonder what flat earthers say when there are literally thousands of photos like this. Do they think there are people just a bunch of people creating fake photos?
Very cool. Thanks. I’ve heard those kz 1000 are literally death machines because of the engine size weight ratio.
flux@lemmy.worldto Disco Elysium@lemmy.zip•Just discovered Disco Elysium,... I may not recover from itEnglish2·1 year agoOh yah. Glad you liked it. The game is a masterpiece. I keep trying to get people to play it and everyone has the same reaction. “Sure sure, I’ll check it out…” they don’t understand how special it really is. Despite being like 95% positive and getting rave reviews from everyone. I did get a writer friend to play it and she couldn’t believe how amazing the writting was. I think it really changed her mind about how video games can be a unique form of writing. I need to start a new game of DE!
I remember reading a proposal how music artists could somehow use nfts as digital record keeping so when digital tickets are resold they could get a percentage of the sale each time it was resold. Making more money for artists and disinsentivising resale but you know ticket places would never let it happen. I’m sure you could do it without nfts but it seemed like a really great idea.
