  • They could improve their conditions by eating something. This is purely performative.

Lifes a stage, this board would improve if you stopped eating entirely but we cant all get what we want.

The Palestinians and Jews have been throwing rocks at each other for thousands of years, we just sell rocks

Is that what you call bombs and targeting criteria to people engaging in wholesale slaughter of children?

Thinking that your opinion matters so much you are willing to die for it suggests mental illness, not political protest

‘People who care about things are mentally ill, not like me im so desensitizatized our government engaging in genocide doesn’t even make me blink’

Not the flex you think it is

  • Why would the single largest anti communist force on the planet back communists?

To address this comment in the linked thread - The US backs literally everyone all the time.

That might seem contradictory, it isnt, the US backed Castro during the Cuban revolution by sending them material aid and money. Does that make Castro compromised by the US? Of course not, like Marx said when talking about trading stocks; it is good to deprive the enemy of its money.

Thats just how rich the US is, it can afford to hedge its bets by funding literally every side of a conflict so if one wins it can leverage this support, of course it will make its primary motives clear in who it most funds but it will usually use indirect vectors to also hedge on the unfavorable odds, usually through proxies; this is most apparent in how they initially supported the Khemer Rouge by creating the conditions that allowed Pol Pot to take power and using them as a Balwark against China/Vietnam/Laos.

I was reading Thomas Sankara’s perspective on this recently actually - he made a passing reference to how after the boers where kicked out of Angola lots of opportunistic factions scrambled to seize power, and he gave examples of groups in Angola who claimed to be socialist/marxist but were actually just people looking to enrich themselves at other peoples expense and who had ties to colonial powers.

He was talking about it in a way that he wanted to avoid that happening in his own country, which ended up happening and lead to his death in a coup so man was probably onto something.

I think its just power vaccum and extreme poverty that does this,

  • Gramsci talked a lot about how communists should try to emulate the Catholic churches structural reach - we should be doing what the church does for the working class - provide community, provide a 3rd space, charity and outreach work, mass events, teaching and reading and such.

I think we can learn a lot from how religion organizes.

Im personally agnostic and respect most moderates religious beliefs, although I remain spectical I wouldn’t shut someone out or refuse to work with anyone who was religious.

  • Even just getting through the general setting of the book will be enough, its about a lord going around buying up dead slaves titles so they can then use the uncollected tax and insurance to profit, quite literally a debt collector scheme in a feudal serf society - they do this during a famine and right after a land invasion.

Its the conditions that caused the revolution - widespread famines, pointless wars to stroke the monarchies egos and boost their tax revenues by expanding borders and a tiny middle class of lords that basically get to act as the taxman for the above, completely above the law.

It is a character, but it is also real.
