I’ve literally never heard of those horrible companies mentioned in the post. I have no idea what they do. In that sense, maybe Ed’s bad at PR? Honestly I’ve been following Ed’s work for a long time now and I’m also a frequent critic online of genAI, so I don’t really understand this swinging at him with a bat. He’s been a net positive for the movement, no question. Also the line about how he’s an ass on social media…that’s his brand. He’s always roasting everyone. He also roasts himself, when he’s not ironically making himself out to be a genius (in that winking British way). If you don’t like that sort of humor, fine, but I think it’s pretty weird to take it too seriously. 🤷🏻♂️

Not one single mention in this entire article about how the onus of safety has to be on drivers and on the car-oriented infrastructure of the community. Not a single mention about how to improve safety for pedestrians and micromobility users across the board.
This kind of reporting is criminal. But OK sure, it’s not the car-brained people who are out of touch, it’s the children who are wrong.

Aww, those poor multi-ton metal leviathans are frightened by the scary human-sized two-wheelers. 😢

Very cool idea! Just starred on Codeberg.

These are the hardest working people in the business right now. They are entitled to making a decent living and the least folks can do is sign up for a free account. 😅

Hey now, The Matrix Resurrections finally redeems aspects of The Matrix Revolutions. Progress! 😅

“Not infuriating, not enraging. Mildly Infuriating. All posts should reflect that.”
Read the sign. 🙃

I loved Perfect Days, one of the most visually compelling indie films I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing.
Old and busted: accidentally install malware on Windows.
New hotness: now Windows itself is malware!

Technically, LLMs as used in Generative AI fall under the umbrella term “machine learning”…except that until recently machine learning was mostly known for “the good stuff” you’re referring to (finding patterns in massive datasets, classifying data entries like images, machine vision, etc.). So I feel like continuing to use the term ML for the good stuff helps steer the conversation away from what is clearly awful about genAI.

Whoa, I look exactly like that at this precise moment…

I don’t at all agree with this graph, and I think you’re sort of missing the point of the original post.

I can’t believe I’m saying this*, but…I am incredibly excited to see this movie.
* I’ve never really been a Superman fan, and on top of that didn’t care for the Snyderverse (though Henry Cavill is awesome). But yeah, everything about this film is coming up positive for me so far!

This was literally the only reason I had any potential interest in GitLab. What a joke. 😠

looks at self in mirror and cries

I let my Max subscription lapse some time ago. A smattering of decent HBO shows and one or two great ones is just not worth it. Zaslav has been running this company into the ground. Apple TV+ smokes Max in value. And now they’re realizing maybe dropping the name “HBO” off of HBO was a bad move? LOL
But hey, he’s making big bank so it’s all worth it…for him. 🙄

Me too, I was a Kbin guy before I was a Lemmy guy (and now PieFed…)
Agreed. While plenty of people have been covering energy use by technology for many years as well as the many dangers of social media and other online services…the fact is Gen AI simply takes everything that was already questionable and doubles it…quadruples it… Yes, not everything in tech is bad! And the stuff that was bad before does not excuse what’s frighteningly worse now.
