Update: I’m using the term “Americans” as the majority of American voters in 2024.

vegan@lemmy.world•Ingredients be like... "Vegetarian, but not vegan"English
21·10 days agoI feel this …
I remember in Uni that I learned that the veggie instant noodles we were getting had pork but the chicken instant noodles we were buying were actually vegan-friendly.
When George W Bush was president they told everyone to shut up and listen. When Obama came to office they went wild with every single little thing.
They have no principles.

2·14 days agoI always wonder about that because you need a lot of people to function in an “end of the world scenario”. It just feels like the ones that are doing the real work are the ones with the power in that case.
I think that was the origins of it and can be celebrated that way.
However, I feel it has most certainly been hijacked by religion and capitalism since then in certain parts of the world.
I enjoy it due to having time off, so I’ll take that :P

7·19 days agoI love how when Obama called Fox News right wing propaganda that everyone came after him and said it was an attack on free speech. Then you have all the alt-right losers talk about how the right wing is the branch of free speech for years. Then you have these issues and the right wing just sit on the wayside waiting for a left wing social issue to come up to pounce on that while they ignore this.

They’re going with the battered wife syndrome in the defense but there’s been evidence of her repeatedly abusing him and he even said that he was going to die if he stayed in this relationship given the abuse he suffered.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those of you that made new friendships this year
6·24 days agoA few at work where we’ve met up afterwards.
Traveling abroad and saw a few people and we linked up and took pictures and shared WhatsApp contacts.
I met this girl at a wine tasting and after the first date she just wants to be friends, does that count?
I’ve seen some YouTubers say that FAFO isn’t going to get them to start voting Democrat.
I honestly don’t think they ever will … so at the very least I think they should feel the pain that they’ve caused. I don’t give a fuck if I can change their minds at this point. I don’t know how to reprogram a cult member and it’s galling to put that on me anyways.

3·26 days agolol I was gonna make that joke (I am British too)
I do think it’s overstated about how bad British food is, at least nowadays but at the same time, we’re self-deprecating so lines up.

I mean, I’ve never seen someone have a giggle and then frown and say: “that fucking sucked”
Obviously this varies but I found myself walking far more in Europe than in the US.
Also, some of the obesity I saw in the States I didn’t see anywhere else. It was wild.
Once again, all anecdotal.
