3·19 hours agoThanks that gives me a ton of info. Appreciate it.
I forget where I heard, but the only issue ive heard about with one of those all in one inverter/battery units is that the modern ones are heavily app focused, locking features out without using an app. And one of the reasons you would use a battery in the first place is if power or other essential services are out. In the case I remember the individual was frustrated because without the app, you couldn’t modify anything on the device…which seems very bad.
I may look into this further, again appreciate it! Ive been looking for something for my shed for close to a year, but I dont want to drop $500+ on something only designed to work for a couple of years.

4·19 hours agoNice! We need more open source ebook projects. Or just open hardware projects in general.
Ive had my eye on the open book for a LONG time. I tried to get the kits but they were sold out within 1 day if I recall. I was so bummed. I have a couple of ebook readers and even contributed to the https://quill-os.org/ project back in the day. Biggest issue is companies like to change their hardware unfortunately and absolutely NO documentation on what goes on in there or repair-ability. Its still funny to me that Kobo got so popular in the first place as the company basically took the easiest/cheapest route at all times with the ebook readers…and accidentally made one of the easiest ebooks to get into. There was an SD card even you could image right off of it.

3·19 hours agoawesome thanks.
So one of these? https://www.ankersolix.com/products/c1000?variant=49702371524938
The product page says a smart phone is required. Is that accurate, or is it easy to use without it. Does that mean it needs internet in order to work? How has your experience been when the internet is out?

4·19 hours agoWhere did you buy the equipment? In my local area theres a ton of scammers for solar. But the tech is VERY good and outside my local area, I know it works. Still looking for a good supplier.

5·19 hours agoIm going to get an Arduboy fx and Diptyx ebook reader at some point. Looking forward to playing around with both.
The “standards” where not there, so all websites had to make things custom. I remember my wife making custom buttons for hers back in the day. It was so awesome.
Maybe you know about it, but neocities still has some of that charm. https://neocities.org/browse
Love this kinda stuff. Thanks.

Peertube@lemmy.world•Is anyone else having a problem with subscribing to channels?English
1·2 days agoOh yeah tinkerbetter doesn’t federate if I recall. Certain instances can chose to federate or not. I can see subscribeto.me on my small single user instance, so not sure there. It sucks your having so much trouble.
Ive had more luck on piefed. Dont ask me why but videos seem to come in easier there: EX: https://piefed.social/f/fediversevideos

1·2 days agoWhich instance? Sometimes downtime can affect it or different versions of peertube between instances. Peertube federation had issues a couple of years ago.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is posting from #Mastodon to a #Lemmy community a good idea or will this just confuse everyone?English
23·2 days agoI believe both systems already support this yes?
And on piefed, tags work like mastodon, so you get thebest of both worlds. We one big family (of protocols). We are not sticklers for rules as long as its in best faith.

Oh! That’s great news. The news articles call made it seem like the website and streaming will go down soon. Maybe they are just sensational titles then.
Good news at least Archive.org has some good collections already: https://archive.org/search?query=subject%3A"pbs"&sort=-downloads
But the data hoarder side of me wants to have a local collection as well. Just in case. Cause archive I think will be on the chopping block at some point.
I’ve had more luck with CLIENT_BASE just fyi for roof nodes and another smaller device for general messages. Hope you have fun!
