mke@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Guys, what's a toxic trait other guys sometimes have2·10 months agoI’ve seen this, and what bothers me most is when you get that nasty feeling they’re not looking for a therapist, but validation. Yeah, your ex-wife sucked, man. She was totally in the wrong about everything always, sorry you had to deal with her for so long. I’m sure you’re in the clear and there’s nothing you could be blamed for, it’s easy to tell from this one-sided retelling of your personal conflicts.
When anyone’s first topic of choice for casual conversation is how much their last partner was in the wrong, it’s… difficult not to be dubious.
The more I see how people use downvotes, the less I like them as a feature in general. I don’t downvote things anymore.
- Everyone can upvote, which already brings the most popular content to the top. Why does the system need another dimension to it?
- I often see unpopular comments at the bottom, with scores like +2 -9… The absence of downvotes wouldn’t make a difference in content ordering, because the previous comment is simply +4.
- If I disagree with someone enough to act on it, it’s my rule to explain why. A minus one is nearly useless as feedback.
- Then, once I’ve replied, what’s the point of downvoting? Everyone can read my thoughts.
- Replies can be upvoted too, for people who think truth comes down to a battle of internet points.
- If I honestly believe something is bad or harmful to the community, it should probably be reported, not (merely) downvoted.
Downvotes as they are seem like outdated design on the human interaction level. They fail to iterate on years of knowledge gained since their inception.

Blocking certain country focused instances can help, too.
Putting their comments aside, I think it’s really impressive how they came up with the perfect four word combination to blue-screen my brain every time.
kol-something? I think it’s kolanaki but I never get it right. They’re definitely eye-catching in the web UI, even if I don’t see them all that often. I kinda get the feeling I misunderstand them a lot.
Wait, I’m a little lost, why is this in dunmeshi? That… Just looks like Frieren to me. Very pretty, but still.
mke@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why people loves Mr. Beast content? Or Why his content is so popular?48·10 months agoSupposedly, a lot of lying, staging, faking, possible fraud, generally shady and consciously exploitive behavior towards viewers, many of which are kids.
This is stuff I remember off the top of my head, according to 1 (one) half-watched video on the topic. In other words, I’m not exactly in the know.
Maybe paint things that reflect your interests? Be careful to pick long-lasting ones, though. Otherwise future you might think present you was a goofy idiot… Which could be endearing, really depends.
Generally, I suggest you consider painting things you cherish. You’re putting in effort, and you’ll be seeing the result often, so it might help to pick something you care about.

God gets tired of testing humanity, descends to tell people to persecute billionaires instead of gays.
Microsoft actually loves open source and releases the NTFS driver code under a useful license.
I am happy.
England explodes, or something—I don’t make the rules.

You either need to take a break, are unwilling to self-reflect, or are a troll.
mke@lemmy.worldto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•*Permanently Deleted*English5·11 months agoI am having good faith, telling you that your post doesn’t present a strong case and why, and telling you what I believe are the most productive options going forward. You’re asking me to have blind faith, and if I did that I’d live in a sea of bullshit.
This isn’t really about being good or bad with technology, but if that’s a concern, I assure it’s possible to get better at it. Feel free to message me if you want help with this.
I don’t see how creating a new account would ever be easier, it’s literally extra work.
mke@lemmy.worldto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•*Permanently Deleted*English8·11 months agoSeems you created a new account just for this post, leaving us without the ability to look into what happened in the past and no evidence of your own for the claims made. You might have a point, but you could also just be a jerk, Fuckers “Go fuck yourself.”
Mods and admins are the people responsible for upholding rules and stopping hate speech, with the assistance of the community. How should they do this without the power to silence violent voices and rule-breakers? Actual question, moderation is a complex social system.
If you genuinely believe you have been banned for no reason, please reach out to people capable of helping you with all relevant information, assuming you haven’t done so already.
If you were a jerk, consider good ol’ self-reflection.

mke@lemmy.worldto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•How are you lemmy peeps?English5·1 year agoResponsibilities keep piling up, but I currently lack the necessary tools to do anything about most of them, which has me in a state of constant minor anxiety.
On the other hand, I just ate a tasty sandwich, so that was nice. Also, my doggo is snoring right around the corner and the sound is so funny, I love it.
You?
mke@lemmy.worldto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•What could be the consensus for a !privacy community that is not lemmy.ml nor lemmy.world?English0·1 year agoMaybe I’m missing context or misunderstanding something here, but isn’t it a little early to say the instance/community aren’t being managed? There doesn’t even seem to have that much relevant feedback to base anything on, so far.
Furthermore, privacyguides isn’t just a known name to me, it’s also a well regarded one. I appreciate them having an official community on Lemmy, so that pro carries a certain weight with it.
P.S. thank you for your efforts towards reducing centralization and unnecessary reliance on lemmy.ml.
On the other hand, an isolated community can also become a nasty brewing pot, reinforcing harmful behaviors and even intensifying them over time.
I don’t think calling them safe spaces for hateful assholes is accurate, but I understand frustrations with them.
