i absolutely get the underlying intention, but the bad feeling of having missed the deadline and ending up with a voided present is just awful
gift cards suck. don’t decide for me where to spend the money, don’t give me something that will eventually become invalid if i forget to use it (i probably will). they’re such a scam.
i pledged years ago to never buy those again. always cash instead, or wire transfer money.

259·1 month agoit’s sold in every souvenir shop of stuff made with olive tree wood in Greece. and it’s a stupid device, so much honey stays stuck in it after using it, absolutely not worth it

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What Youtube channel has maintained high quality standards over the years?
3·1 month agoAbsolutely, he’s getting access to places and hardware that keep pushing the envelope, but still remains that very humble human being he always was. He’s so kind to everybody working in the factory tours. Absolutely recommend. The only thing i’m not a big fan of is the content he produces with weapons, but that’s a cultural thing, i get it.

fascinating, you know a lot about this period, thank you for all the additional information! ☺️
It is often said that the months September through December got bumped back two positions when July and August were added into the calendar in honor of Julius Caesar and Augustus, but that is not correct. Those two months had been there long before those two men needed to be honored, but originally, July was called quintilis (‘fifth month’) and August was called sextilis (‘sixth month’). So they were always in the calendar, and named for numbers just like later months, but were later renamed for Caesar and Augustus.

TL;DR: january and february weren’t really accounted for and were a “dead zone”, but later someone (might be Numa, but it’s not 100% sure) changed that and the offset was introduced.

I can write my own texts, I can read long ones without having to get a summary. I can draw, I can take pictures, I can do online research. All by myself without a spicy autocomplete to prechew it for me.

oh thank you, that’s actually helpful :D
