Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla customers in France sue over brand becoming 'extreme right'English
1·7 months agoLet’s not forget how much scummy stuff Elon is doing. It’s not “only” the whole Nazi thing (which btw totally increased the chance of the car being vandalized). We know that he lied about the autopilot, which totally is something to sue about and give back a leased car.

4·7 months agoJust imagine having such a AI-Barbie as a child, talking to her for hours, thinking that she is a real friend and then… the servers are getting shut down. And when you’re older, you’ll stumble upon the fact that every conversation was send to a server and analyzed

Technology@lemmy.world•Europe’s onlyfans performers can’t get justiceEnglish
2·8 months agoI mean, why wouldn’t sharing sexual pictures and videos outside of the given consent by the performer be sexual abuse? If you perform in a porn video for a porn company and sign all documents, it is clear that you know and agree that the video will be sold publicly. If you send a nude to someone in private, you totally are not agreeing to be posted on the internet. OnlyFans is kind of in between - if you post something there for your subscribers, the consent is that the subscribers see the content after paying for it.
Libreoffice was created as a fork of OpenOffice because the development of OO became stale due to Oracle. If you’re still on OpenOffice, try LibreOffice - it’s kind of the same, but better

[Moved to Piefed] Ask@lemm.ee•What is the most relaxing video game you've ever played?
5·10 months agoI know what you mean - but on the other hand, there is no way to lose. You grow your vegetables and they are bringing quite the profit margin. If you “die” in the dungeons, you just wake up at the start. Your crops can’t fail. You can wait for years to finish some quests.

12·10 months agoStardew Valley. You can’t die. Nothing is time critical. Just do what you want to do and explore everything. Grow vegetables.

Buy European@feddit.uk•Are Any European-built CD Players Out There?English
4·10 months agoI don’t think that there is an european manufacturer for CD Players left in Europe. Such “end of life” technology will come from China and maybe there are some small european companies building custom cases for the standard mechanisms. But there are so many used CD players around, just buy one from an european seller and you’re good. Or ask around, there are so many old players around that somebody will gift you their unused one

[Moved to Piefed] Ask@lemm.ee•Everyone always talks about how good the 90's were. What was bad about the '90s?English
14·10 months agoIt really depends on where you were living - if you were living in former Jugoslavia with the war going on, the 90s were pretty bad. And 2025 in China is better than 1990. Despite everything currently happening, the world is in many parts better than 30 years ago.

Bicycling@lemmy.world•Are Expensive Bikes and Gear Really Worth The Investment?English
1·10 months agoYeah, bicycle journalism is a lot like car journalism. A brand new, perfectly tuned bicycle with top-end components will be a great ride. Just like a high-end Mercedes is a great car and a brand-new Ferrari will be quite the fun. But if I want to commute to work, those cars are totally overkill and a long time review of a Dacia Sandero would be more interesting. I wan’t to know how components are holding up, if I can buy replacements for those custom carbon parts in 8 years or what a crash would cost me

Games@lemmy.world•Gaming has a polarization problemEnglish
11·10 months agoBut as regular people, gamers, Lemmy posters, why are we doing the same? How is it serving us? Are we all influencers in waiting, hoping to up our updoot count and build a following of… dozens?
Many people are rationalizing their purchase decisions. Not everybody can afford to buy (and play!) two games so if you have two highly anticipated games or consoles coming out in the same time, most people can only get one. And then they have to choose. Afterward, they don’t want to hear that the other game is better, that it’s also great and they are missing out on a lot of fun and that the one they didn’t get is totally awesome.
And that also is not healthy
The correct tools are those small plastic containers or a cheap grease gun. You can get the grease better into the bearing with them and don’t have the risk of smearing cotton fiber in there. They are of course more expensive than a q-tip, but you can get one for unter 5€. Seriously, if you do this even a couple times a year, buy one.

(This is also a great example why environmental regulation is so tricky: It totally makes sense to prevent one of the worst polluting product to be phased out or replaced with a better solution. But then there are edge cases (how many people have even greased a bearing in their life?) where the new product might be worse, but that still is not an argument for mass pollution on our beaches or against that regulation)

It’s a real problem and it does happen. Stop blaming users for bad software
