Seems like a lot of effort, and then people will still keep complaining and demand more.
And would happily donate to them if they needed it.
So you are not donating anyway? It seems to me like there is a vocal minority of users who make any type of excuse for the fact that they are unwilling to donate. Instead of being honest about that, you demand from us to make more and more changes, which will piss off other users and will likely not lead to any actual increase in donations.
So you would be fine if lemmy.ml was run exactly like it is now, but without Dessalines or me taking direct actions as admins?

Thanks for your donations and your understanding. Its a bit annoying that people ascribe various beliefs to me personally based on nothing more than comments from random lemmy.ml users. But it seems there is nothing I can do to change that.
I am not a tankie and reject that label.
The donation amount has increased a lot after this call for donations. Previously it was only 1000 Euro per month for each of us. With my skills I could easily earn 8000 Euro per month or more working for a company in the United States.
Thanks for your support!
That guy cant be me because I would be drinking beer. And by cards do you mean donation money?
Dont call me tankie, its offensive.
None of the admin work on lemmy.ml is paid, its all volunteer based.
So you expect me to dig through months of history to dig up this alleged comment where Dessalines acted as a jerk? Or blindly take your word for it? Besides, if the last time this happened was months ago it hardly seems worth mentioning. Everyone can have a bad day and say something wrong, its not the end of the world.
I dont want anything bad to happen to you or your family, and you have every right to live in peace in your homecountry. It is unfortunate that you have to live through that. Best of luck!
Check the Opencollective link above, it shows the payouts for lemmy.ml hosting.
Creating a foundation requires a significant amount of time and effort, and also results in extra overhead for regular tax declarations and other management. I dont think its feasible at this time, but definitely something I want to do in the future.
Good idea, thanks for the suggestion!
There was no hardcore refusal because this matter wasnt even mentioned as a blocker for donations until a few days ago. In fact lemmy.ml hosting is only funded via Opencollective, so if you donate through any other platform the money goes entirely to developer salaries.
Or it never happened in the first place.
I hope youre right :)
