The original comment we replied to opened with- “Welcome to the majority of AMERICAN…” so I don’t know where you got the idea there was any assuming.
Required? In the states? Nah. My last house in the states was built in 2000, not a single balancing valve or thermostatic valve in the place. 4 bed 2.5 bath.
Not just the states….im in a (rented) house in Germany that was built in the 90s (so not that old to compare to a lot of other houses here) and deal with this everyday. Coupled with the insanely long cleaning times and frequency of use due to how small they are for the “economic” washing machines and dishwashers, fluctuating water pressure and water temps are always a surprise….

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There should be a "last used combination" faucet handle for sinks so you don't have to balance hot and cold everytime during winter
27·26 days agoMy super basic faucet handles are exactly that…you twist it left-right to set temp and tilt it up-down for pressure from off to full. We just leave it rotated wherever we like it for temp and tilt up to turn on each time to the desired pressure. Our water pressure is always variable, so the amount tilted up varies, but the “rotational temp” almost never needs changing. There’s no fancy thermostatic valve in these like some shower have. There’s even those fancy kitchen sink faucets that remember everything and you just tap them with your hand and they automatically turn on/off to your settings of temp and pressure. I think they are called “touchless faucets”. Pretty sure even Ikea sells one.
I feel like sink handles like mine are super common, too. I’ve had similar ones in the states and in Europe…

Technology@lemmy.world•Here’s what ads on your $2,000 Samsung smart fridge will look likeEnglish
3·2 months agoYea, i pretty mich agree with all your points. Made me think of a situation with my neighbor a few months ago- one of their kids left the fridge door slightly open when they left. I think for a weekend trip or something, just enough that everything had spoiled. Lots of meat, too, so they had a blast with that. Some sort of push notification might have helped or prevented that, but otherwise…nah. Dont need nor want any of that always connected, smart, online, wtf ever mess.
But still kind the same…the guys i know that are into watches dont buy just one and done. They are collectors. Like one for each type of outfit almost. So this could compare to buying numerous car parts. And there’s always the unobtainable dream watch that probably costs as much as a nice car…

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Hot take: 3D printing toys kinda sucksEnglish
70·5 months agoI’ve learned this as well. But printing parts to supplement existing toys…now that’s been great. Hot Wheels accessories is a really good example…
I have a belt with a plastic buckle/cinch thing now that i always make sure is my “flight belt” for this reason. Even for events i know will have security check points for access. I’ve only ever had to take it off ONE time in like 8-9 years and that was flying out of Dublin airport to mainland Europe last month- i had already gone through the scanner and I got flagged. Security dude said it had nothing to do with plastic vs. metal belt, just that it was a “bulky area” that something could be in……well, fair enough, i guess.
Domestic Short/Long Hair
But….i’m already in the store trying to buy the things? Why do i need to hear constant jingle advertisements for the store im already in? Not jingles for products or certain sale items…just the store itself….as if i kept forgetting where i was?
“Save big money, save big money at Menards!!” Yeah, i know- that’s why im here! But ima leave if that shit doesnt stop!
Haa, i was gonna say “is that for real???”(like not a mishap) But there’s even a second way back there!
Damn, you right…i was going off memory…

Technology@lemmy.world•“Bionic Girl” Debuts New Wireless Hands That Even Work When Detached From the Main ProstheticEnglish
24·8 months agoOff the main topic of the article here, but that was a roller coaster of thoughts for me with the Title and the link thumbnail-
Kinda looks like Drew Berrymore in the thumbnail, so “Bionic Girl Debuts…” oh cool, new movie—-wait, Drew lost her arms and now has prosthetics? Opened the article……Ohhh…
My first thought as well…BuUuTt, Land trains are a thing, in Australia of course.
Second this for the US. Nothing major as a nation, but various small things in different areas or cities.
I know Hawaii does a Lei Day- “May day is Lei Day in Hawaii”. Not a full on holiday, but there’s usually festivities of various levels around the islands.

Technology@lemmy.world•The US Secretary of Education referred to AI as ‘A1,’ like the steak sauceEnglish
1·8 months agoFair enough! I grew up on the gulf coast and have traveled all over the deep south, have family from northern Louisiana, and my parents lived in Baton Rouge for a while- so i wasnt trying to “assume” for you! A1 (for me) is just one of those things that seemed so common i stopped seeing it and never needed to look for it! Like I said, you aint missing much, so im glad you aren’t familiar with it cause there are waaay better options where you’re at!!

Technology@lemmy.world•The US Secretary of Education referred to AI as ‘A1,’ like the steak sauceEnglish
10·8 months agoOdd you havent seen it being from the south…but that’s probably for the better! It’s Steak Sauce. Meant to be put on steaks…it’s in all major grocery chains and usually on the tables at most restaurants serving any sort of a steak menu. Bottle is shaped like a Worcestershire bottle, but has a white label with a big A1 on it. I never cared for it so at this point couldn’t even tell you what it tastes like. If a steak needs a sauce, then it’s not a good steak.
With that said, i’ve seen it used as a marinade ingredient, or more complex sauce ingredient- so it’ll still have its uses.
