Her laptop “won’t work” with Windows after October, ok?
tomjuggler@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•"They just have to read the documentation"2·7 days agoIf you don’t open external files there is no problem? We paid for it and it does the mail merge so that’s what we use. Been looking for Linux alternative with the same functionality and no luck so far, LibreOffice is almost but not quite good enough. Nobody else does mail merge from spreadsheet?
Also I’m guessing it will be more secure on wine
tomjuggler@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•"They just have to read the documentation"1·7 days agoI looked it up there was an issue with btrfs just after they started Linux version which was why I stopped using it. That was a long time ago you are right, seems to be resolved now.

After that it’s a short slide to “if you don’t have Linux (why not?) by the way here’s how to install on android/iOS if you must.”
At least that’s my experience as an early Linux on desktop adopter. Yes Linux is a niche thing in mobile at the moment but the truth is the developers are the ones who make it happen and they are already there.

tomjuggler@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•"They just have to read the documentation"24·8 days agoI have this exact situation with my wife’s work laptop, which can’t upgrade to windows 11. The requirements are pretty simple, something that runs Chrome and Dropbox as well as Microsoft Office 2007.
I’m going with Mint Cinnamon for her (I use arch & kde btw) - was pleasantly surprised to see Dropbox now has Linux support actually, haven’t looked at it for years!
Almost everything she uses her computer for runs in Chrome.

Which Minecraft mod pack is that from?
tomjuggler@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it weird to juggle in the park?13·13 days agoAs a professional juggler I say go for it! That’s where I practise and never had any bad experiences in public parks.
True story: I used to worry so much about what people thought. One day I did an experiment, dyed my hair lime green and went around to the shops, library etc. Nobody batted an eyelid and I realised it was just me.
Nowadays I do “weird” things in public every weekend, and people usually pay in advance!
Spaghetti with tomato and avocado. Add some olive oil, sunflower seeds and a bit of cheese if you are feeling rich. *Avocado is really cheap where I live, you can literally get them for free
tomjuggler@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•The white Afrikaners lining up to accept Trump’s offer of asylumEnglish13·22 days agoI suspect that Trump offering asylum to Afrikaners has more to do with USA being pissed at SA for the Gaza case than him thinking there is a “South African Genocide”. He’s just trying to stir the pot but generally South Africans don’t take this seriously. Some people on here though…
Picking stuff up with my toes. I use the two big ones like chopsticks or just scrunch something up with all of them together. My toes can spread out as wide as my fingers, so it’s easy to manipulate things with them. Also, I am very well balanced on one leg, probably because of doing this for so long.
This power is more and more useful as I get older and find it more of a chore to bend over, with my beer belly getting in the way (I’m almost 50, it’s a sign of success!). If it’s below my waist I’m going to pick it up with my foot 50% basically.
I live in a warm climate and hardly ever wear closed shoes luckily, I know some places it wouldn’t be practical…

My mum was a librarian for 20 years. Benefits include:
Getting to read all the books before anyone else. Nobody complains if you are reading at work. No library fines for overdue books and no limit on how many books you can take out. Quiet work environment.
I actually did an internship at the library - wonder how I manage to organise that - there is a large amount of repetitive manual labour involved as I recall it, mostly handled by the junior staff
Does anyone else feel ill when seeing some AI images? It’s like an out of tune piano for me
