To be fair, most CRT TVs are the equivalent of like a cheap not-classy record player. A nice big 1200p CRT computer monitor is a lot more classy

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How many active robots do you think exist today on this planet by your best estimate ?
16·3 days agoWell we know in the year 1240 the answer was 0 and in 1241 it was 0. So we know that the number of robots is increasing at a rate of zero per year. If we follow that trend to today, we get 0 (robots in 1240) + 786 (years since 1240) * 0 (robots per year) = 0 robots in 2026.
Yeah, I think minecraft is the most expensive game I’ve ever bought, there are just so many good things around that $20 mark. Beamng, terraria, vintage story, hytale, ets2/ats, stardew valley, slime rancher, it’s so much stuff

222·9 days agomodern windows tries to trick you into not doing that. if you hold for a little bit it turns the screen off so you think it’s turned off when it really hasn’t, then if you hold a little longer it turns the screen back on and tells you to please stop holding the power button, then finally a little after that the computer actually turns off. why the hardware even makes that possible is beyond me

Technology@lemmy.world•Discord in discussions of going Public Trading, economics expert discusses how that might change thingsEnglish
15·16 days agoI use both matrix and discord regularly and matrix is nowhere near a viable alternative for discord, the way they work is just too different. The only real alternative I’ve been able to find is guilded but it’s no better than discord since it’s still completely centralized and closed source
Found the windows theme from the image: https://www.thepcmanwebsite.com/themes/pink_vs.htm
I wonder how hard it is to create kde themes using the assets from a windows theme

politics @lemmy.world•Trump says broadcast licenses should be terminated if networks are "almost 100% Negative" about him
51·1 month agoAre broadcast licenses even “very valuable” anymore? I think I know maybe one person who regularly watches broadcast tv. Not that that means he should take them away, I just feel like it isn’t nearly as big a threat he thinks it is

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an unpopular UI opinion you have?
111·1 month agoAndroid’s modern gesture navigation is awful. I like gesture navigation on ubuntu touch, sailfish, webos, just about everywhere I’ve used it except android, but I cannot stand android’s. Why does swiping from both sides do the same thing? Why does swiping from the bottom do multiple different things depending on how you swipe? Why does swiping along the bottom to switch apps rearrange them so going back and forth is unpredictable? The old two button semi-gesture navigation was so much better.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a real, actually working way to earn money online without having a job?
8·1 month agoI mean I think anything you do that makes enough money to be worth it is just a job at that point right? Like you could start streaming on twitch or something, but once you start making money from it, it becomes a job.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Will pictures have the same meaning they used to?
2·1 month agoEarlier this year I collected virtually every photo I’ve ever taken from every device I own and put them on my immich server and it was so worth it. I spend so much time looking at my old stuff now that it’s all there. If anything I think having easy access to take and view photos just lets you connect to them more because you can so easily go back to any point in your life

Anyone can learn to use an office suite on their own in very little time so there’s no reason to teach it. Being able to use the command line is a valuable skill that makes you a way better computer user no matter what you’re doing and it’s one that a lot of people are missing these days. I don’t think you can really say you know how to use a computer if you can only use it in the very specific ways someone happens to have made a gui for

You can only be cozy in the cold weather, plus you can wear a coat if it’s cold but you can’t wear an anti-coat if it’s hot. When I was too young to fully understand seasons I used to have nightmares about it suddenly becoming summer because it’s just such an awful time of year
