Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What weird things do your pets do?
2·1 year agoOne of my chihuahuas does this too but doesn’t sneeze.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is your pet peeve in 2024?
5·1 year agoMine is
tillinstead of’tilto meanuntilandain “two times a year” instead ofper. I still say “two times a year” myself but when writing it looks so unprofessional and I always notice it in news publications.
I don’t understand why it’s upsetting:
500 ÷ 2 = 250 50 ÷ 2 = 25 250 + 25 = 275

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•I can imagine the "will you be using the mobile app?" question to get cheaper food is going to devolve into the Mark of the Beast and someday no one will be able to buy anything without using the apps
11·1 year agoTheir app was so futuristic on the original iPhone, then it went to shit pretty quick. It looks/behaves like an unmaintained Ruby on Rails 3.1 app.

3·1 year agoI get stuck on foods too but it’s usually something I cook. I keep cooking until I get the recipe down, then I get sick of it after awhile and move on.
I’ve also got a few staples: breakfast burritos (tofu scramble + homemade fake meat or soy chorizo), chili, pizza with imported tipo 00 flour, stir fry, etc. I love spicy foods so especially with the stir fry I add chili oil to kick it up several levels and then something repetitive and boring a lot more complex.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Programmers of Lemmy, what are your interviewing horror stories?
7·1 year agoI’m actually happy to say I haven’t necessarily had any bad programming related interviews. In fact, as someone with zero professional development experience but a healthy portfolio (side business for former employer, systems built for prior jobs not related to development) I’d say it was almost too easy to finally land a full time development job.
You cut out your eyes for fun?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you wish was true about you?
5·1 year agoPatience.
Everywhere I go people meander like zombies whether it’s walking, driving, shopping, etc. I can’t figure out why people are soooooo slow, do they have nothing to accomplish? It constantly puts me off, but it’s probably because I moved to a big city in the west (US) coast.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How can I automate archiving email?
1·1 year agoI should’ve clarified that the command line is actually my preferred way of doing it. Our personal devices aren’t on 24/7 (laptops) so automating it the traditional Linux/UNIX way™ is preferable.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does Z-Wave just kind of suck, or is it me?
2·1 year agoMaybe, I mainly used it just to connect to Home Assistant. I already channel everything into it for it to control everything, so I’m not really doing things like connecting Aqara and Hue for example.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does Z-Wave just kind of suck, or is it me?
2·1 year agoYou know, I think I was rushing through things too fast after a day of programming for 8 hours with close to no breaks.
After I calmed down, ate dinner and came back to it in a more leisurely fashion I found it to be pretty easy.
I think what got me was that I’m not too familiar with Matter and Thread, so having to have another Docker container going was unexpected and frankly I wasn’t in the mood to learn anything new.
The sensors seem to be reporting happily and often. I’m pretty impressed so far (other than the ports on the hub, but I can live with that).

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does Z-Wave just kind of suck, or is it me?
1·1 year agoI just got an Aqara M3 hub as well as the temperature sensors today, and I’m already kind of wishing I hadn’t.
It’s next to impossible to get an Ethernet cable and/or power cable into the damn hub. It got my WiFi credentials but refuses to connect to it since I used Ethernet during setup.
Now I’m struggling to add it to Dockerized Home Assistant. I was under the impression Aqara was becoming Home Assistant “certified” but Home Assistant’s Thread/Matter support seems like trash.
Currently pulling another Docker image to my burdened Raspberry Pi 4. It ran out of disk space.
Just frustrated and not understanding why all this is so difficult. I can’t imagine what I’d do if I weren’t a big programming computer geek. They really sell this shit to normal people?

2·1 year agoBecause right now in 2024 we have the word “until” (one L) so using the word till as an abbreviation looks dumb as shit.

Not super grim, but I worked in a hot warehouse unpacking cheap clothing from China, repacking it and watching the owners turn around and sell it on Groupon for a huge profit. Sometimes their family members would stop by in brand new Mercedes, BMW and other high-end luxury cars.
The others and myself were all promised better jobs like product photographer, website designer, etc. I only lasted there one week.
