I feel this is a stupid abbreviation that needlessly obscures the subject from readers, in favor of corporation-indulgent branding.

5·9 days agoWhat could previously have been disguised as a casual knitting circle is now a bunch of people who have to wear masks, unable to bring their phones with them, taking public transit and paying exclusively in cash having to meet in a tech free zone
Sadly, even those precautions are ineffective for many (most?) people in the US, unless they can find transportation that avoids the surveillance cameras that are nearly ubiquitous in cities.

312·10 days agoI wonder when Trump will learn that his claim to power comes from one of the most famous antifascist documents in the world: The Constitution of the United States.
Edit: If anyone ever needs incontrovertible evidence that Trump is anti-American, I think his position on this qualifies.

What is this thing?@lemmy.world•What is this pattern printed on a medicine packet?English
5·10 days agoIt kind of resembles the patterns used on digital paper, but your description doesn’t suggest that it would be used that way.
I don’t recognize it as any common sort of matrix code (2D bar code).
Reminds me of cobblestones.

News@lemmy.world•Your grocery store is a bewildering sea of overly processed food. Here’s why and what to doEnglish
6·12 days agoyou can absolutely do these things yourself! but it’s also become socially acceptable, socially expected even, to outsource these kinds of specialized tasks to specialists.
It’s not just a social issue. When we consider the planning and shopping and prep work and cleanup, cooking is (like most of the tasks you listed) enormously time consuming. Lots of people have so little free time in their lives that regularly cooking their own meals just doesn’t make sense.
Cooking freezable meals in bulk can help, as can taking turns with someone else in the household (if there is anyone else). But the time cost is still significant.
Sad to see that so many FANTASTIC games ended up with nil, because E33 stole the show so hard, but it’s tough to argue that they didn’t deserve each one.
I’ll argue it.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a gorgeous creation. The music is wonderful, the scenery is lovely, and the English voice acting surprisingly good.
But its gameplay is bog standard JRPG battles with a basic parry mechanic. Nothing original or interesting there.
I feel it deserved every award it received for being a work of art, but Game of the Year? No.

Pre-ordering games encourages publishers to release buggy, unoptimized, incomplete, garbage.
And, since there’s no scarcity, the assurance you might get from pre-ordering physical goods doesn’t exist here.
Please don’t do it.

I’d say that’s a pretty reasonable reaction.
Not nuclear. Human.
