27·2 months agoI’d never heard of him before, but wow, screw this guy. I spent some time in Copenhagen recently and it was truly a culture shock moment how much better their cycling infrastructure is compared to ours in the US. I enjoy cycling, but hate riding in the streets because I’m always nervous of cars around me. And now that I’ve seen what bike lanes are like in Europe, the comparatively few we have look woefully pathetic.

421·4 months agoIt’s hard to imagine that Notepad of all things has now been enshittified. On Windows, I only ever use Notepad++, but regular ol’ Notepad has been a staple of Windows almost since the beginning. It truly feels like they’ve finished peeling away what little good remained of what Windows used to be.

2·4 months agoTexas here and I just scheduled to get mine next week. However, it didn’t say anything on the scheduling page about needing a prescription. Should I expect them to surprise me with that when I go in?
I’ll admit the reviews of it being very difficult turn me off as well, but if the difficulty settings are as flexible as you say, that would convince me to give it a try. Though, I really wish they had a demo available on Steam.

5·4 months agoNo, but he’ll send ICE to deport the National Guard. I wish I could say I was joking, but he would actually do something that stupid.

591·5 months agoI don’t think it’s about authority, but if Israel is stupid enough to kill the Pope, I imagine most of the catholic world would immediately turn on them. That could be enough to pressure other nations to finally get involved and put a stop to the genocide.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•ICE Agent Caught on Camera Disguised as a Construction WorkerEnglish
17·5 months ago“What agency are you with?” asks Fonseca Tapia, filming through his car window.
“I’m not going to tell you,” responds the man, who is wearing a high-visibility construction vest, an orange helmet, and glasses, with a camouflage mask covering most of his face. “It’s none of your business.”
All the more reason people to not comply and protect themselves by any means necessary. Maybe they’re officers who will arrest and detain you, maybe they’re random neo-nazis who will drag you into an alley and murder you for whatever reason. Without any requirement or enforcement of official identification, these ‘agents’ could be literally anyone. And ICE is actively hiring neo-nazis, so even knowing what agency they’re with would tell you a whole lot about their intentions regardless.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Silicon Valley AI Startups Are Embracing China’s Controversial ‘996’ Work ScheduleEnglish
5·6 months agoIt’s not about sustainability, it never was. It was only ever about endlessly repeating the cycle of improving profit margins in the short term by any and all means. And what could sound better to venture capitalists than “improved productivity” regardless of whether or not it was true?

80·6 months agoI really wish we would stop using the term “deporting” for situations like this. That is not what’s happening here. “Rendition” and “exile” would be far more accurate.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tough, Tiny, and Totally Repairable: Inside the Framework 12English
47·7 months agoI got a Framework 16 a few months ago and I’ve been loving it. Super happy these guys managed to make this concept of a repairable laptop work. Though, one thing I wish is for them to make a storage case for the expansion cards. I’ve built up a little collection of them and obviously filled up all 6 slots pretty quickly. I’d like a better place to put the unused cards than in a random drawer.

As a trans Texan, I can tell you from firsthand knowledge that many of our highest ranking state politicians are extremely hostile to people in the LGBTQ+ community and actively want us gone one way or another. Wanting to believe the best in someone is fine in general, but know who you are advocating for. These people have a history which paints a very dystopian picture of their intentions and we don’t currently have a federal government willing to stop them. Do I think they are making literal “kill lists”? No, I don’t think we’re quite there yet, but this is a strongly indicative prelude to that extreme. If they are making a list of a group of minorities, it’s almost guaranteed it will be used for discriminatory (or flat out criminal) purposes.
