Canadian here.
I needed to get new handlebar tape for my bike. Our local shops have a lot of American brands, including stuff Made in the USA.
But a few places carry European brands, so I decided to take a look.
I settled on Grepp fabric handlebar wrap (Made in Sweden using materials sourced from Europe), and some gel pads from Fizik (Made in Italy).
Along with Wippermann chains (Made in Germany), and the fact that my bike is from Decathlon (French company), I’ve been more than happy to send money to my European friends.
Thanks for your support 💪
I am not sure on the other ones but Decathlon is 100% made in PRC.
I can’t say for sure 100% with my bike unless I check the label, but I see other bikes in the same series, with one being “Country of Origin: France” and the other “Country of Origin: Portugal”.
They are Decathlon’s own brand of bike, not just the store they were purchased at. 😀
Huh, I think I was wrong on that.
I found an article that said 90% of all bikes sold in Europe are made in Europe. Didn’t know that. Hope it is not just assembly.🙃
5 years ago I believe Taiwan had a near monopoly on bike frames. Country of origin laws are quite strict in the EU, so that may have changed.
For bike frame manufacturing, Portugal is where it is at now.
