From Ray Yeager

Blue Jay vs Burrowing Owl … another from the series. The attacks were continuous for several minutes. The Owl did not move from the tree.

These were some of the best bird fight pics I’ve come across.

I’m a bit surprised the owl did not retreat. These 2 are more evenly matched than many such instances, and even then, it’s usually the larger bird (typically the owl) that back down.

This type of photo doesn’t always do so well, but this one seems to be fairly popular so far today. I think people might not want to see the animal they’re here to see getting picked on, but it’s a part of their lives, so I think it’s important to see and understand. While we may love the owls, we don’t spend our lives being afraid of them eating us or our families! Most of the time, the owl just wants to catch a nap, but the other critters don’t know that, of course.

It doesn’t seem Burrowing Owl typically go all that far (1 mile /1.6 km) from their burrow, so it’s hard to guess who’s home territory we’re looking at here.

Wherever it may be, this mini but mighty owl seems determined it will not be moved due to some jay’s dissatisfaction!
