Good point, put a hat on the ground in front of you can you can make a buck or two… (this isn’t legal in every city, but it should be)

I have noticed that too, which is really odd because they well know I’m the center of the universe not them. \s

While new york may be temperate (though it doesn’t show up in the maps I see - might be looking at maps on my phone) that doesn’t mean it is really comparible.
bluGill@fedia.ioto Science@mander.xyz•After the apocalypse: Urban and near-urban farming may be enough to sustain mid-size cities2·4 days agoFour seasons yes, but not cold enough for snow - coldest normal temperture would be -3C. Different plants grow than summer but you can get something if you choose your winter plants. Or maybe you only lose out a month of growing season.
bluGill@fedia.ioto Science@mander.xyz•After the apocalypse: Urban and near-urban farming may be enough to sustain mid-size cities3·4 days agoThe “medium sized city” in question has a population of less than 100,000 people. I think most of us would call that a small city at most. The city is also has a temperate climate meaning year round growing seasons are possible. Yet still the city would need a lot of farm land around.
In short this doesn’t apply to you. If you are a “survivalists” you best preparation is to the ability to get to a rural place where you will be welcome. They will need extra labor and they have the crops already, but if they don’t know you they may refuse to let you in (or only allow you in as a slave?) If you can’t get out (which you may not be able to!) knowing your neighbors is a good second best, if neighbors looks out for each other they can find a lot of ability to survive and there is some hope that you can grow food in your city.

However if you are the type that makes good content but can’t release often you want pay per episode. If you sometimes release twice a month, and sometimes go months between a release it isn’t fair to ask your viewers to subscribe in months where they get nothing.
Go to your local library and look for whatever “leather working for beginners” book they have and read it. Then go to the local craft store and buy a scrap of leather, and some thread. You can also youtube for how to make a wallet videos. You don’t need many fancy tools use, a fork to mark where the evenly spaced holes should be, then a nail/hammer to punch the holes, and needle will work for sewing (though I’m told a real leather needle is much better and cheap if you buy any tools).
Note that your book will show you lots of fancy patterns you can put on the wallet with expensive tools. It is up to you if that is worth it.
bluGill@fedia.ioto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Car race where cars cannot cost more than $5003·5 days agoThe key to winning is figuring out how to make winning things safety related and thus not subject to the price cap. New tires won’t blow out unlike the old worn out tire - safety so now you can spend a lot of money on the best racing tires. Good brakes are important so I replaced the warped rotars with competition ultralight racing brakes (if you want to check I can find worn out brakes at a junkyard and you won’t the actual brakes were fine). Those are easy/obvious examples, winning teams are really good at finding such things.

If I want to read I can do that on my couch - or I have the option of doing something else in that time. There is no benefit to being on transit, the purpose is to be there.
If I’m forced to do something it should be to exercise, which I can’t do on transit.

Since others have allready pointed out we have ways that work that use much less energy I don’t feel a need to estimate deeper.
bluGill@fedia.ioto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Could wastewater plants simply heat up water past 500C to decompose all chemicals and output clean water?3·11 days agoAt standard pressure. high pressures can make it liquid. I can’t find charts that go high enough with a simple search but it looks like you need to get to 4000-5000psi. industry does go that high for some operations. It needs special design to toeit safely though.
Find some one who is into fishing and have them bring you with. You probably already have a friend. Fishing is mostly a quiet activity, but there is some socal aspects. Someone to show you how is often much better than books or youtube for learning and there is always someone near any fishing hole that will help. Don’t ask for their “secret spot”, but there are plenty of not secret spots that work just fine. (and secret spots are overrated in general unless the real secret is how you got permission to fish there)

As others have already implied there is always the possibility for technology to get better and thus the inspections not be needed, or perhaps automating the inspections.
Accounting is often weird. It makes no intuitive sense why just-in-time should save so much money, but it does.

As is the non-medical person who uses something from that box on the wall to help. For all of them their primary purpose is to triage, and and then render get people to the correct needed care. Sometimes (often) the situation is minor and they can handle it, however their primary purpose is to get someone in trouble to better care fast. The ambulance crew has a few more tools to get you to the hospital fast, and some tools to solve emergency situations that most of us do not, but their primary job is still getting someone to a hospital.
Many of you live in a state with right to repair laws. If you are one of those people make sure you study what your local laws say you can do. Different areas have different laws, and some of you will have a lawyer begging to represent you for legal fees if you win…
