Do they think movies play in real time? What do they think when there’s a scene change?

The cloud buzzword was the dumbest thing ever. The cloud is an infrastructure technique for deploying server resources. It has zero end user impact. It made certain features easier to deploy and develop for software companies, but there is nothing fundamentally different in the experience the cloud provides vs a traditional server. Outside of the industry, the term means fucking nothing to users and the way it was used was just synonymous with the Internet in general. If your file is hosted on the cloud or a centralized server makes no difference to the end user and there would be no way to tell how it was hosted in a UI.
So they’ll stop injecting ads in the middle of videos at the worst possible times right?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do Americans measure everything in cups?English
91·2 years agoBecause it’s often easier to measure things by volume, and most cooking dishes do not need precise measurements. It sucks for baking dishes, but for anything that doesn’t need to be precise I find it way more convenient to grab a volume measurement than a scale

I didn’t know anything about this, but was curious and looked it up. Most methods say to turn off the oven before you put it in, some say a lower temp. I found one result that said 350 for 15 minutes, but it said to watch it closely the whole time. I don’t think your glove would have burned if you were watching it, things just don’t burn so fast that you can’t catch them before they turn black if you are watching it the entire time. I don’t know if warming up a glove helps it, but it does seem like you didn’t follow the instructions properly, and after cross referencing should have done the oven off method.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Post pics of unwashed shelf-stable eggs (this scares the americans)English
0·2 years agoThe biggest reason eggs are refrigerated in the US is because they’re not vaccinated for salmonella, so refrigeration is needed to inhibit growth. The US was able to do that since they have the infrastructure for end to end refrigeration. It’s not necessarily wrong, it’s just another way to do it. Since salmonella can also be on the outside of the egg they need to be washed, and since they’re refrigerated the loss of the protective layer doesn’t matter. I guess in Europe with the vaccination it also lowers the chance of salmonella on the outside of the egg allowing the outside to remain unwashed and protective of the inside making refrigeration unnecessary. There’s just not enough of a reason to change things in the us now since the refrigeration method is already in place and switching would cost more up front. The main downside is that you can’t eat raw eggs in the US which means some dishes can’t be made, but the vast majority of the US isn’t interested in raw egg dishes anyways.
