Will skate. be available for Mac OS, Steam OS, Proton/Linux systems (handle held PCs like the Steam Deck) for Early Access?

• We want to bring skate. to as many platforms as possible and will continue to listen to feedback and look at the feasibility of adding new platforms in the future, but for Early Access launch, Mac OS, Steam OS, Proton/Linux will not be supported.

The Skate franchise started on PS3 (don’t remember if it was on other platforms) and was basically a more “realistic” skateboard game where instead of just using button combos, you were able to do tricks with the analog controls of the DualShock3 controllers. People really enjoyed the first 3 games. This is a reboot, but with the severe downturn EA has taken over the last 10+ years, I wouldn’t really bother putting too much hope in it being good.

Not only that but it also intentionally starts with a lower case s. It’s almost like it’s purposefully engineered to be as irritating a title as possible.

Oh nooo, not the crappy revival that desperately wants to be the next fortnite! I’ll surely miss not being able to play this.

Last I heard it was going to require a persistent internet connection anyways, so just another coffin nail for me (assuming that’s still the case).

Yes, MMOs tend to require a persistent internet connection to work. I’ve never heard of one that didn’t.

I wasn’t aware it was going to be an MMO, super cool energy you’ve brought though.

My impression had been that it was going to do the same nonsense that the THPS 1+2 remake did. An MMO is far worse, though given your response I suppose bringing up the absurdity of turning a historically singleplayer (and sometimes optionally multiplayer) series/genre into a 99%-likely-to-fail boondoggle is moot.

Also, it’s neither here nor there but just to be pedantic there actually are a few (though admittedly rare) examples of games that had MMO modes in addition to full singleplayer versions. Hellgate: London comes to mind, as do some ARPGs depending on how you want to define MMO.

It’s a micro-transactions store with a game built around it. Knowing EA they’ll probably throw their rootkit anti-cheat in to assure investors that “hackers” won’t get anything for free.

I curious why it need anti cheat for single player game. This not single player?

I dunno if it has a single player mode but everything we’ve seen of the game so far shows it heavily multiplayer focused.

Also if the names the part confusing you. This isn’t a port of the original Skate game, it’s a reboot.

No worries, they’ll eventually launch it and it’ll run at a piss-poor 1 decade per frame on even the highest end hardware for the gameplay, but the microtransaction storefront will run at 3000000000000000FPS with zero bugs whatsoever.

Remember all the trailers for Battlefield V, and that got support for I think 2 years. This has even less trailers, so my bets are less than 2 years of support.

Yeah, at this point I assume they just want to choose awful names to garner attention, but damn, this just makes me think someone typoed.

I want to think that they were gonna name it something like “skate!”, but then it was really shitty or something, so someone sneakily renamed it “skate.” at the last second

I played the original Skate via a 360 emulator on the steam deck and it ran perfectly fine so I don’t think you even really need a mad PC setup. It did push the deck to its Max though!

Was it supposed to be? I just assume by default a lot of games don’t officially support Linux.

As underpowered as the Steam Deck is, it’s a miracle to me that it can even run modern AAA titles at all.

Wake me up when they release a 1440p OLED model that can handle Ray Tracing @ 60 FPS minimum.

I feel like I am the opposite. The steam deck changed my entire opinion of what I need to enjoy a gaming session. Previously I bought high end hardware, and high refresh rate screens, but after playing through several games on my steam deck, I am realizing I spent way too much money on my gaming computers over the years.

That is an incredibly fair price for what I want. I would absolutely love to give Valve $1400 if the performance justifies the price.
