I think part of the reason that many Americans have the mindset they do is because the US thrived after WW2 by not having any large scale infrastructure damage. War torn areas force people to become more caring and work together. Being isolated and never having directly experienced war caused a reinforcement of exceptionalism and individualism. I think a war on its soil would do a large amount to change peoples mindsets.
Edit: just a reminder unpopular opinions should be upvoted.
Don’t worry, we’re working on that in-house.
I don’t think its best to want for war in the most militarized nation in the history of our planet but definitely take your point that there are lessons Americans are unaware of due to the benefits of their geographical isolation during WW2.
OP:
I cherish peace with all of my heart. I don’t care how many men, women and children I kill to get it.
Civil War 2.0 here we come. Think that’s the best bet you have. No one will come knocking at America’s doorstep with armed forces. How could they? An invasion would be met with an insane response miles out.
Civil War 2.0 won’t bring anyone together, either. Civil War 1.0 was a big one: scorched earth warfare, 2% of the population dead, half the country in shambles. And it did exactly the opposite of bringing us together. We are still struggling with the fallout 160 years later.
Well, I don’t know. Trump would easily turn a blind eye if Putin wants to come across Alaska.
Yet those same Americans probably think they could step foot anywhere in the world and win no matter the people or geography. Which is wrong, and exactly the point.
Really? I thought we dispelled that myth in the 1960s with Vietnam. We then dispelled the myth of the USA’s ability to execute ‘nation building’ with Afghanistan and Iraq war 2.0.
Unpopular, but true.
The US has never had a war on its own soil?
Where was the comment of “never had a war on its own soil?
We didn’t see fighting here during ww2 is the original post.
never having directly experienced war
Please tell us more about how war is a good thing, oh master of armchair politics.
Wishing war on anyone is just fucking vile. Go on, look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you wish that thousands of people should die needlessly.
Is this a general prescription for all countries? We all need a war once in a while to remember to be decent humans?
